All-New, All-Astounding Avengers #159 – ‘I Cannot be Made to Believe’

Posted on October 23, 2024October 30, 2024 by phil.wrede
The X-cutioner, a HYDRA agent, and a member of the Tracksuit Mafia stand on the grounds of the White House, facing off against the unseen mutant heroes of X-Force. The title of this comic, “All-New, All-Astounding Avengers Presents… ‘I Cannot be Made to Believe’,” is visible at the top of the image.
The X-Cutioner tries to threaten X-Force, but Cyclops is not having it, and punches his fist into his open palm as he argues passionately.
President Kirby (“played” by an action figure of Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead series, and named for legendary comics creator Jack “The King” Kirby) tries to coordinate backup with nearby S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but they report they can’t move in. Beast sends a radio message to Dazzler, flying the X-Force Blackbird jet overhead.
Dazzler reports seeing many, many more villainous henchmen converging on the White House. Bishop decides to start the fight, and blasts a HYDRA agent off his feet with gunfire.
In the air overhead, Darkstar sends another HYDRA agent flying with a burst of energy.
A third HYDRA agent foolishly shoots Bishop in the back; he’s able to redirect the energy and blast the HYDRA agent with an even more powerful assault.
Cyclops fires an optic blast at a Tracksuit Mafioso, who somehow deflects the energy beam with a metal pole. As he’s distracted, though, Beast comes crashing in and smashes the Mafioso’s leg under one of his enormous feet.
Domino faces off with the X-Cutioner, and their fight is only just beginning.
The credits for the comic strip, citing the U.S. National Archives photos that were the background art, the use of fonts by Blambot, the stock visual effects photography by Action VFX, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure and certain background photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
