All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers #145 – ‘Nothing Affects Me Anymore’

Posted on July 3, 2024July 7, 2024 by phil.wrede
Via a holographic transmission from the secret X-Force base in New Mexico, the Beast and Tony Stark (who stands in his office in Avengers Tower) argue about the course of action they each want to take, in response to the Reverend William Stryker’s escalating rhetoric of violence against the mutant community. The title of this comic, “All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers Presents… ‘Nothing Affects Me Anymore’,” is visible at the top of the image.
The Beast officially resigns his membership in the Avengers, and Tony makes some sarcastic quips to hide how he really feels about his friend’s departure from the team.
Hank argues that immediate action is necessary, to counter Stryker, and that any delay puts more people in danger.
Tony tries to explain the constraints he sees on his ability to act, and the Beast cuts the holographic transmission, declaring that he’s no longer willing to wait to take action anymore. Outside, Beast is met by Domino and Bishop.
Beast asks where Cyclops is, and Bishop tries to excuse Cyclops’ absence. Inside the base, Cyclops grapples with psychic visions of Jean Grey.
From within the walls of Hansen Industries HQ, it’s revealed that Cyclops is not actually seeing Jean, but psychic transmissions of Jean sent to him by Emma Frost, for nebulously nefarious purposes.
In the hidden underground lair beneath Justin Hammer’s Long Island mansion, Hammer (“played” here by an action figure of Jeff Goldblum from the Jurassic Park movies) reaffirms his intention to dismantle the android Jocasta’s artificial mind to construct his “A.I.” product. Jocasta calls upon some of her mystical abilities, and green tendrils of energy shine around her arms.
Jocasta uppercuts Hammer so hard that he flies across the cave.

Well, the Beast finally did it! After years of complaining about his unfulfilling position at Stark Industries, he’s rejoined some of his fellow Xavier School alums at the secret X-Force base, ready to fight for mutant rights, or spring more political prisoners from confinement, or whatever it is they get up to. We haven’t really spent any time with X-Force exclusively (which is something I hope to change, but maybe not until 2025…), so go ahead, dear readers, and let your imaginations run wild!

I know we’ve gotten sidetracked from Jay Hansen, his Starjammers, and his vague, ominous plans, but bringing Emma Frost back into the story is the first step towards returning to their schemes…

Another question for long-time readers: you didn’t think Jocasta’s magic was only going to be used to create a diversion for the paparazzi, did you? And, if you’re not a long-time reader, welcome, and feel free to use the below links to catch up on this arc of the story, so far:

  • Part One (wherein we visit the Negative Zone, and New Mexico, and Long Island!)
  • Part Two (wherein terrible foes make a fresh, unwelcome alliance!)

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
