All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers #152 – ‘Calling In More Than We Can’

Posted on September 4, 2024September 4, 2024 by phil.wrede
In the Negative Zone, former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Kate Neville struggles to come to grips with the transformation inflicted upon her by the palladium ore. The title of this comic, “All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers Presents, ‘Calling In More Than We Can’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Kate eventually wills into being tendrils of fire-like energy around her arms.
Back in New York City, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Wurmser (“played” here by an action figure of Arnold Schwarzenegger from Terminator: Dark Fate) interrupts the fight between the Starjammer Corsair and the gangster Hammerhead. Spider-Man encourages Corsair to shove Hammerhead his way.
Meanwhile, in the Baxter Building, headquarters to the Fantastic Four, the Super-Skrull Kl’rt marshals his resources and finally shatters the Invisible Woman’s force energy prison that has been surrounding him.
As Kate tries to control her new powers, she’s set upon by some of the Negative Zone’s most dangerous residents: Annihilation Reavers!
Hammerhead tries to dive at Spider-Man, but our friendly neighborhood wall-crawler thwips out of the way!
As Spider-Man webs Hammerhead’s feet to the street, and the android Jocasta rushes towards him, Wurmser dodges out of the way of Corsair’s sword attack.
Jocasta knocks Hammerhead for a loop, Corsair tries to press his assault, and the Super-Skrull crashes onto the floor of the Baxter Building lobby, ready to begin the next round of his fight.
Wurmser nails Corsair with energy blasts from his laser pistols; Kate whips up some energy orbs around her hands, deciding to fight the battle before her.
At the White House, President Kirby and Secret Service agent Adams (“played” by action figures of Bruce Campbell and Peter Weller, respectively) look outside to see the X-Cutioner and some HYDRA agents aggressively occupying the White House fountain.

Well, after a couple months, Agent Wurmser finally rears his head again, out for some fresh revenge! If he didn’t hate the Avengers so much, he’d be a great asset to the team (thematically speaking, anyway). And… HYDRA! We haven’t seen a HYDRA agent since the start of the year! It’s almost like… things are starting to tie together!

If you’ve experienced the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe before, you probably know that the links below can catch you up on the current storyarc, but if this is your first time… Welcome, and feel free to stay and read a while:

  • Part One (wherein we visit the Negative Zone, and New Mexico, and Long Island!)
  • Part Two (wherein terrible foes make a fresh, unwelcome alliance!)
  • Part Three (wherein the Beast and Jocasta both take action!)
  • Part Four (wherein Jocasta escapes, and Kate Neville infiltrates!)
  • Part Five (wherein sides are chosen, and fights are threatened!)
  • Part Six (wherein the President and his rival join the fray, in their own way!)
  • Part Seven (wherein Kirby calls Stryker a creep, and some fights break out, too!)
  • Part Eight (wherein we reach one hundred and fifty comics in the main storyline!)
  • Part Nine (wherein Kate Neville achieves her true form!)

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
