All-New, All-Astounding Avengers #156 – ‘I Just Need Something’

Posted on October 2, 2024October 2, 2024 by phil.wrede
On the streets of New York City, Justin Hammer (“played” by an action figure of Jeff Goldblum from Jurassic Park) brandishes his proton cannon before the Avengers and the Starjammers! The title of this comic, “All-New, All-Astounding Avengers Presents… ‘I Just Need Something’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Yondu and the Starjammers’ billionaire backer Jay Hansen, as well as Ironheart, Frog-Man, and the Black Widow all stare in some degree of confusion at Hammer.
As the android Jocasta approaches Hammer from behind, the villainous Scorpion tries to raid the fallen Doombot for spare parts, to repair his cybernetic tail weapon.
Jocasta begins to cast a spell on Hammer - which he does not notice - as the Scorpion effects repairs to his equipment.
Jocasta causes Hammer’s legs to lose their strength; he falls, and is pinned by the enormous, useless weapon.
The Scorpion tries to rejoin the battle, but is immediately met by the Black Widow. Meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Wurmser (“played” by an action figure of Arnold Schwarzenegger) fights Nebula and the Black Knight.
The Starjammers back Wurmser into a corner, and Nebula knocks him unconscious with blasts from her dual pistols.
Mantis and the Starjammers’ phony Captain America continue to battle with the mind-controlled Drax.
Finally, Drax falls to the ground, the faux Cap pins him down, while Mantis tries to put him to sleep.
In the Negative Zone, former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Kate Neville lifts the dead body of her friend, Clay Quartermain, just ahead of approaching Annihilation Reavers.
Kate flies across the Negative Zone, and through the portal back to the Baxter Building, and our reality.
As she crosses back into our world, Kate watches in horror as Clay’s body dissolves into dust before her eyes.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
