All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers #151 – ‘Future Cluttering Its Waters’

Posted on August 28, 2024September 4, 2024 by phil.wrede
The Super-Skrull punches the Human Torch clean out of the air, as they battle in the lobby of the Baxter Building, the headquarters of the Fantastic Four. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers Presents… ‘Future Cluttering Its Waters’,” is visible at the top of the image.
In the Negative Zone, Kate Neville (“played” by an action figure of Emily Van Camp from her role in the MCU) is further taken over by the glowing energy left over from the palladium rock. Back in New York City, the gangster Hammerhead swings a battleaxe at Spider-Man, while the Avengers the Black Widow, Frog-Man, Jocasta, and Ironheart face off against the mystery assailant that damaged Ironheart’s armor in the previous comic.
Billionaire Jay Hansen points his laser rifle at the Avengers, as the extraterrestrial archer Yondu steps up next to him. At the Baxter Building, the Human Torch writhes on the floor in pain, as the Super-Skrull prepares to land atop him, sword-first.
Kate Neville floats into the air in the Negative Zone, while Hammerhead still can’t land a blow against Spider-Man to save his life.
The X-Cutioner continues to take over the debate between President Kirby (“played” here by an action figure of Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead series) and Reverend William Stryker. Kirby and the X-Cutioner continue to ratchet up their rhetoric toward one another. The cyborg Nebula joins Hansen and Yondu in their face-off with the Avengers.
Just as the Super-Skrull is about to land his killing blow against the Human Torch, he is frozen motionless in the air, trapped inside a bubble of invisible force. Kate Neville has transformed from the palladium’s effects, now dressed in some kind of mysterious white-and-yellow costume.
Spider-Man kicks Hammerhead into the air with both his feet. Frog-Man bemoans the Starjammers’ betrayal, while the Black Widow indicates she saw it coming.
The Super-Skrull thrashes about. Kate lands back on her feet, the mysterious glow finally gone. The Starjammer Corsair sneaks up behind Hammerhead and holds his saber across the gangster’s throat.
Daily Bugle editor-in-chief finally decides the live-stream has gone too far, and moves to shut it down. Spider-Man doesn’t know what to do about Corsair and Hammerhead. The Invisible Woman focuses up to reinforce the invisible bubble surrounding the Super-Skrull. Kate Neville wonders if anybody back on Earth understands what the palladium did to her.

It took just about seventeen months, but Kate Neville’s finally getting her own super-powered day in the sun (or whatever it is that produces the light over the Negative Zone)! I can’t say that I had this exact stop along the way of her ultimate story planned out from the first time we met her and her fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, but… the germ of it was definitely there. Other Marvel Comics obsessives probably saw this coming, the way she reacted to the sight of that palladium rock when she returned to the Negative Zone!

These fights just seem to keep rolling into one another, like a Katamari of superheroes and villains, don’t they?

I feel like I’m constantly remarking that the comic is getting away from me, that every storyarc is longer than I intended it to be, and that I keep thinking of more and more things that I want to add, but that’s probably a… good problem to have, right? To have too many ideas, and to be able to bring them to fruition, in even a small way? I hope you’re enjoying this frequently-out-of-control comic as much as I am, when I’m putting it together!

Speaking of putting things together – if this is your first visit to the comic, welcome! I hope you want to stay a while. If you do, feel free to use the links below to get caught up on this arc of the story (or, you can take a look at the cover gallery to pick an earlier installment that might catch your eye, too!):

  • Part One (wherein we visit the Negative Zone, and New Mexico, and Long Island!)
  • Part Two (wherein terrible foes make a fresh, unwelcome alliance!)
  • Part Three (wherein the Beast and Jocasta both take action!)
  • Part Four (wherein Jocasta escapes, and Kate Neville infiltrates!)
  • Part Five (wherein sides are chosen, and fights are threatened!)
  • Part Six (wherein the President and his rival join the fray, in their own way!)
  • Part Seven (wherein Kirby calls Stryker a creep, and some fights break out, too!)
  • Part Eight (wherein we reach one hundred and fifty comics in the main storyline!)

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
