All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers #149 – ‘Exactly Where I Most Belong’

Posted on August 14, 2024August 21, 2024 by phil.wrede
The android Jocasta faces off against a Doombot in the middle of a New York City street. The title of this comic, “All-New, All-Intelligent Avengers Presents… ‘Exactly Where I Most Belong’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Kate Neville emerges in the Negative Zone, via the Fantastic Four’s portal. President Kirby (“played” by an action figure of Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead series) and Reverend William Stryker (“played” by an action figure of Michael Fassbender from the X-Men films) argue during their live-streamed debate, hosted by the Daily Bugle. The Doombot begins to monologue at Jocasta.
The Fabulous Frog-Man leaps into action, aiming a powerful kick at the Doombot’s head.
The Doombot snatches Frog-Man out of the air, mid-leap, and swings him face-first into the street.
The rhetoric between Kirby and Stryker increases, as Neville explores the Negative Zone, looking for the bodies of her fallen S.H.I.E.L.D. colleagues.
As the Doombot winds up to deliver a finishing blow to Frog-Man, Ironheart drops in and blasts the Doombot off its feel with her repulsors.
Neville finally finds the body of her friend (and maybe more?), Clay Quartermain, as the Black Widow poses up to join the fight.
The Widow fires her pistol repeatedly at the Scorpion, who shrugs off her bullets, and takes a dramatic swing at her with his giant mechanical tail.
Widow leaps out of the way of the Scorpion’s sting, and Jocasta finally rejoins the fight, while in the Negative Zone, Kate Neville’s attention is taken away by the sight of an enormous palladium crystal.

We’re finally entering the phase of the Kirby/Stryker showdown where the ideological lines are being drawn, where the two candidates start differentiating themselves in more meaningful ways than “doesn’t much care for mutants” (Kirby) and “actively wants to exterminate mutants” (Stryker). I know whose side I’m on, if these are the only two choices.

I know that one of the defining traits of the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe is that it’s overrun with long-dangling plot threads, but I promise, I haven’t forgotten about any of them, and will pick them up, eventually! In the meantime, though, if you need a refresher on this arc of the main story so far (or this is your first visit here), please, enjoy the following links to help you get caught up:

  • Part One (wherein we visit the Negative Zone, and New Mexico, and Long Island!)
  • Part Two (wherein terrible foes make a fresh, unwelcome alliance!)
  • Part Three (wherein the Beast and Jocasta both take action!)
  • Part Four (wherein Jocasta escapes, and Kate Neville infiltrates!)
  • Part Five (wherein sides are chosen, and fights are threatened!)
  • Part Six (wherein the President and his rival join the fray, in their own way!)

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
