All-New, All-Astounding Avengers #158 – ‘Don’t You Dare Tell Me’

Posted on October 16, 2024October 16, 2024 by phil.wrede
The X-Cutioner holds up a cell phone, with Reverend William Stryker (“played” here by an action figure of Michael Fassbender from the X-Men movies) addressing the President of the United States on a video call. The title of this comic, “All-New, All-Astounding Avengers Presents… ‘Don’t You Dare Tell Me’,” is visible at the top of the image.
President Kirby (“played” by an action figure of Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead series, and named for legendary comics creator Jack "The King" Kirby) argues back and forth with Stryker.
The argument gets more and more heated, as Kirby accuses Stryker of masterminding a siege of the White House (which Stryker obviously did).
Kirby starts aggressively taunting Stryker, who disconnects from the call. The X-Cutioner angrily faces off with the President.
Before either man can take action, they’re interrupted by the sound of a tremendous jet flying overhead: an SR-71 Blackbird.
An X-Force strike team - Bishop, Beast, Cyclops, Darkstar, Domino - leap out of the Blackbird for the ground. The nearby HYDRA agents are terrified.
The X-Cutioner attempts to taunt the approaching mutant heroes, but they are unintimidated.
Several exchanges between the folks already present on the ground, and the newly arrived members of X-Force, ends with Beast and Bishop agreeing to assail the aggressors.
The credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art (and the U.S. National Archives), the use of fonts by Blambot, the stock visual effects photography by Action VFX, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure and certain background photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
