All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers #132 – ‘No Time For Hesitating’

Posted on March 27, 2024March 23, 2024 by phil.wrede
On the foggy nighttime streets of New York City, the Starjammer Corsair strikes a pose with his sword, facing off against a Tracksuit Mafioso bearing a machete. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers Presents… ‘No Time For Hesitating’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Corsair deflects the Mafioso’s strike, and twists around to punch his opponent across the face with his empty hand.
Another member of the Tracksuit Mafia levels an M-16 at Drax’s chest, and pulls the trigger. The bullets bounce right off Drax, and he laughs.
Drax catches the barrel of the rifle between his knives, and yanks it clean out of this Mafioso’s hands, declaring that this encounter was not a proper fight.
Drax kicks the Mafioso clean off his feet, and then poses proudly, victoriously.
Corsair and Mantis take a moment to catch their breath, at least until a large, mechanical, green tail crashes onto the ground between them.
The Scorpion is revealed as the source of this attack!
Scorpion thrashes his tail toward Corsair, who only just manages to block the strike with the blade of his sword.
Mantis bends backward at her knees to dodge the Scorpion’s next attempted blow.
She jumps into the air and twists her body around in another acrobatic dodge.
Mantis lands on Scorpion’s back, using her psychic powers to render him unconscious. He falls on his face with a mighty thud!
As Mantis and Corsair catch their breath from this latest fight, a mysterious figure approaches them, holding a large laser gun. It’s billionaire industrialist and man of mystery Jay Hansen (played here by an action figure of David Xanatos from the Gargoyles cartoon), who reveals to the readers that he’s been the power behind the Starjammers from their introduction!
Nebula, Yondu, and Drax join the group. Corsair asks Hansen why he brought such a huge laser rifle along, to meet the team after all the fighting has wrapped.
Hansen explains that he doesn’t want to have to rely on anybody else for his personal security, and that he thinks the laser rifle is pretty cool. Black Knight arrives, too, and with his appearance, the Starjammers are assembled!
Hansen declares that the Starjammers will prove to the people of New York that the Avengers, and their way of doing things, are not the only way by which heroes can be heroic. As the Starjammers agree, Corsair can’t keep himself from directly verbally attacking the Avengers.
Hansen (for not the first time, it sounds like) begs Corsair to stop shouting Avengers conspiracy theories, because people don’t like to hear them, and it will almost certainly cost the team media opportunities if he keeps this behavior up.

The true power behind the Starjammers, finally revealed, and it’s… a character original to the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe (even though he’s “played” by an action figure of David Xanatos from the Gargoyles cartoon, and named for my friend Jon Hansen)! What a twist! A third billionaire has entered the battle! What’s he up to? Why is he managing his own team of superheroes, one that seems to be as hostile to the Avengers as they are to criminals? All these questions, and more, will be answered in the weeks to come…

We’re finally (I promise) at the end of this arc of the “main story,” so next week, a new adventure will begin, one that doesn’t necessarily require your having read the previous 11 installments to properly appreciate! However, if this is your first visit to my little corner of the internet (or you’d like a refresher on the story-so-far, for fun or for clarification), feel free to use these handy-dandy links below!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
