All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers #129 – ‘Help Me Find You’

Posted on March 6, 2024March 6, 2024 by phil.wrede
Two members of the Tracksuit Mafia smack around Miles Morales (in his red-and-black Spider-Man outfit) in the nighttime snow outside of Midtown High. The title of this comic strip ,”All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers Presents, ‘Help Me Find You’,” is visible at the top of the image.
As Miles tries to pull himself to his feet, to square off against the Tracksuit Mafia and their enforcer - the Halfshirt Mafioso - Joey Gastone (“played” here by an action figure of Jacob Batalon from the MCU) uses a stray Avengers communicator to contact Dr. Henry “Hank” McCoy (AKA the Beast) at Avengers tower.
The Fabulous Frog-Man hops in from out of nowhere, challenging the Halfshirt Mafioso to combat. Joey begs the Beast to send any help to the high school that he can.
Frog-Man springs into action, but is stunned by a heavy blow from the Halfshirt Mafioso.
The mob enforcer rants about American superheroes as he knocks Frog-Man down to his knees, and then to the ground.
As he’s getting ready to finish Frog-Man off, the Halfshirt Mafioso is interrupted by a powerful thumping sound from off-panel.
It’s the Beast, who apparently ran all the way from Avengers Tower to Midtown High in five seconds flat. Beast knocks the bad guy clear off his feet with a mighty kick!
Beast stands over the fallen Mafioso, pinning him to the ground with his feet, and holding him immobile while awaiting the arrival of Dr. Bruce Banner (AKA the Incredible Hulk).
As the Hulk approaches, the Mafioso tries to push himself to a standing position, and attempts to get off an insulting remark.
The Hulk punches the Halfshirt Mafioso into the ground so hard that bricks go flying in every direction.
As Hulk and Beast debrief about their “fight,” Miles and Frog-Man check in with one another.
On the top half of the image, Miles somewhat reluctantly admits that, as two teenage superheroes, he and Eugene might actually benefit from the mentorship of more veteran heroes. On the bottom half are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the use of stock visual effects by Action VFX, the use of fonts by Blambot, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/graphic design/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

Welcome back to the Fabulous Frog-Man! It’s been a bit since his last visit to these parts. I don’t know if getting beaten up by a giant Russian is absolutely worse than having to haul a billionaire through the streets of New York City, but neither is a way I’d prefer to spend my evenings. Thank goodness that the Bounding Beast and the Incredible Hulk showed up, to even the odds!

It’s stating the blazingly obvious to say that I enjoy this project a lot. I better – it takes up so much free time that could be put to other use! But, I was looking over the entirety of this arc in the Main Story before I started writing this post, and I actually found myself getting wrapped up in the characters and the situation again. I just plain love comics, to put it simply, and I might even love my comics. That’s a big deal, for me to say! I know it’s not a perfect tale, the one I’m weaving, but it sure is rewarding, to put another installment up every week. I hope, if you’ve stumbled upon it, that you enjoy it, too!

Speaking of stumbling upon… If you have happened upon just this section of the story, welcome! If you’d like to go back to where this portion of the proceedings began, feel free to use the handy-dandy links included below:

  • Part 1 (wherein Tony and Reed try to get Jonah’s help)
  • Part 2 (wherein the Midtown High AV Club gets their teacher’s help)
  • Part 3 (wherein the palladium discovery gets shared with the world)
  • Part 4 (wherein Jonah takes the bait)
  • Part 5 (wherein the Tracksuit Mafia starts to ruin the evening)
  • Part 6 (wherein Miles Morales unveils a new costume)
  • Part 7 (wherein the Sandman’s glass jaw is revealed, and Tony Stark bids a hasty retreat)
  • Part 8 (wherein the Tracksuit Mafia unveils their newest, secretest weapon!)

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
