All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers #126 – ‘Moods Are So Abrasive’

Posted on February 14, 2024February 13, 2024 by phil.wrede
A member of the Tracksuit Mafia stands in front of a brick wall at night, as snow has begun to fall. He holds a flaming molotov cocktail in one hand, and shouts, “Fire it up, bro!” The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers Presents… ‘Moods Are So Abrasive’,” is visible at the top of the image.
The molotov explodes on the street of New York. Another member of the Mafia wanders around brandishing a crowbar, while yet another fires his machine gun into a wall, declaring that he’s going to leave a message: “Eat… lead… Stark.”
More Mafiosos wander around the city, blocking traffic, destroying property, and plotting the theft of catalytic converters from parked cars.
From a rooftop above the street, Spider-Man contacts Avengers Tower, to report the Tracksuit Mafia action he’s witnessing. The Beast and Hulk reply to Spider-Man that several members of the Young Avengers have already been dispatched to observe that action more closely.
Inside of Midtown High, the news of the Tracksuit Mafia’s unsavory activity has already begun to spread. The Invisible Woman starts to get her family ready to depart, and Mr. DeMatteis (“played” here by an action figure of Andrew Garfield from Spider-Man: No Way Home, and named for legendary comics creator J.M. DeMatteis) worries about how they’re going to get Tony Stark away from the school.
Three-fifths of the Midtown High AV Club, Joey Gastone, Ben Reilly, and Leila Lorman (“played” here by action figures of Jacob Batalon, Tom Holland, and Xochitl Gomez from the MCU) try to figure out what they’ll do if the Tracksuit Mafia gets into the school before they depart. Joey pulls out his souvenir Spider-Man mask, intimating that he’ll put it on and fight the bad guys himself.
As the Invisible Woman makes plans to evacuate all the civilians, Mr. Fantastic and Miles Morales discuss the APB that went out to all the Young Avengers (of which Miles is one, which he can somehow balance with schoolwork, and his internship with the Fantastic Four).
Mr. Fantastic gently suggests to Miles that he change into a different outfit, if he does go join the Young Avengers, as he’s just been streamed onto computer screens and phones worldwide. Miles regretfully admits that he left the new costume on which he’s been working at the Baxter Building.
Mr. Fantastic tells Miles that he actually brought that new costume with them to the high school. Outside of the building, the Thing and the Human Torch block Sandman and yet another member of the Tracksuit Mafia from barging inside.
Miles changes into a black and red costume, with a modified spider logo on the front and back of his sweatshirt; the hood of that sweatshirt is cinched up below his eyes, kind of like a secondary mask.

Welcome back to the freshly escalating action here in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe! In case you’re joining the story already in progress, welcome, and here are the links to this part of the tale, so far:

  • Part 1 (wherein Tony and Reed try to get Jonah’s help)
  • Part 2 (wherein the Midtown High AV Club gets their teacher’s help)
  • Part 3 (wherein the palladium discovery gets shared with the world)
  • Part 4 (wherein Jonah takes the bait)
  • Part 5 (wherein the Tracksuit Mafia starts to ruin the evening)

Feel free to go back and read – or not! We’re not producing a James Joyce novel here; you can probably follow along just fine!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
