All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers #128 – ‘Standing In The Way’

Posted on February 28, 2024February 28, 2024 by phil.wrede
In the hallways of Midtown High, Mr. DeMatteis and Coach Sink (“played” here by action figures of Andrew Garfield from Spider-Man: No Way Home, and named for legendary comics creator J.M. DeMatteis, and by an action figure of John Cena, named for legendary comics artist Bill Sienkiewicz, respectively) look like they’re ready for something to go down. Coach Sink is taking off his trademark baseball cap, and Mr. D carries the tactical baton that Agent Maria Hill left him in the last comic. The title of this strip, “All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers Presents… ‘Standing In The Way’,” is visible at the top of the image.
A pair of Tracksuit Mafia members threaten the teachers, in the halls of their very own school. Outside, Miles Morales (in his new superhero costume) communicates with Dr. Hank McCoy. The Beast orders Miles to rush around to the front of Midtown High.
Miles web-slings around the Midtown High campus, while in the front of the school, Joes Gastone (“played” by an action figure of Jacob Batalon from the MCU) confronts an unseen threat, while wearing his Spider-Man mask. Inside the school, Mr. D hits one of the Tracksuit Mafiosos clear across the face.
Coach Sink punches the other thug into next week, but to little avail, as outside the school, some of the nameless Tracksuit thugs welcome the arrival of one of their greatest weapons: the ultimate brawler, a Halfshirt Mafia fighter!
The new enemy tries to talk Joey out of fighting for his school, but Joey doesn’t really grasp the subtleties what he’s being told.
Miles arrives at the scene, and encourages Joey to run away. The Halfshirt Mafioso kicks Joey away.
Miles fires a string of web at the Halfshirt Mafioso, but the thug dodges it, easily.
The newly-arrived thug takes a swing at Miles, and connects in midair, knocking him away.
Miles lands, and attacks with more webbing - from both hands - but has just as much luck as before.
Another blow sends Miles flying even further than the previous one. This fight is… not going his way.

Sorry, friends, for the nearly-nonexistent blog posts for the last couple of weeks, but it’s been about all I can do to get the comic out on time. Maybe next week will be less… hectic!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
