All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers #123 – ‘Help Me Find a Way’

Posted on January 24, 2024January 21, 2024 by phil.wrede
The Midtown High AV Club tech classroom has been set up for the Tony Stark and Reed Richards presentation, with a couch, a refreshment table, and a stool. In a suit, Tony Stark sits on the couch, while club faculty sponsor Mr. DeMatteis (named for iconic comics creator J.M. DeMatteis, and “played” here by an action figure of Andrew Garfield) sits on the stool. He says to Tony, “Never fear, Mr. Stark - I don’t know enough about celebrities to ask gossip-y questions, anyway!” The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Good-PR Avengers Presents… ‘Help Me Find a Way’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Midtown high student Max Allen (“played” by an action figure of Zendaya from the MCU Spider-Man movies) adjusts her camera for the upcoming live broadcast, while Tony adjusts himself on the couch to present his best side to the cameras.
Joey Gastone (“played” by an action figure of Jacob Batalon from the MCU Spider-Man movies adjusts the lights, and Mr. D stands up to stretch his legs before the broadcast begins.
Tony and Mr. D get distracted, making some sarcastic remarks to one another, and the students (including Ben Reilly, who’s “played” by an action figure of Tom Holland from the MCU Spider-Man movies) have to tell the adults that it’s time for the broadcast to begin.
Tony and Mr. D try to get back on track, and Tony immediately takes over the conversation, in spite of the fact that they’re presenting this announcement at Midtown High specifically to include the students and their teacher.
Tony begins to build toward announcing the Fantastic Four’s discovery of palladium in the Negative Zone, while Mr. D tries to backtrack, and take a moment to explain who they both are, and why this presentation is happening.
Tony summons a holographic image of the first identified palladium deposit, then he and Mr. D each begin to talk about the benefits that such an influx of the valuable mineral could bring to the people of Earth.
Lyla Lorman (“played” by an action figure of Xochitl Gomez from the MCU) zooms in with her own handheld camera, while off to the side, Susan Storm-Richards of the Fantastic Four grumbles that she should’ve required Reed to be the first to present. Her thoughts are interrupted as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill approaches her from behind, wearing a face mask.
Agent Hill attempts to persuade Sue that S.H.I.E.L.D. really should have a part to play in the retrieval and use of the palladium, but Sue disagrees emphatically.
Their discussion is interrupted by Coach Sink (named for legendary comics artist Bill Sienkiewicz, and “played” here by an action figure of John Cena). Sue asks the coach to wait off-camera with her, which he’s more than happy to do.

Welcome back to Midtown High, and the internet livestream presentation that will (eventually, hopefully) change the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe as we know it! One of my goals for the comic in 2024 is to consider the impact that the Avengers, their friends, and their foes have on the world around them, and not just how it feels when Colossus’ fist smashes into the Controller’s face (though, I love those kinds of stories, too!). The only way to know how successful I’ve been is to loop back to this post at the end of the year – so wish me luck!

The discovery of the palladium deposit in the Negative Zone has gone out to the whole world, now! Was this the right call, for Stark Industries and the Fantastic Four to take the lead on this mining project themselves? How will all the businesses impacted by the clean energy technology react? Does anybody else have access to the Negative Zone? You’d figure some of the smartest people in the world would have answers to these questions, so we’ll just have to wait and see what they are!

Clearly, Tony’s feeling better than he was during the Hammer Gala – he’s out of his wheelchair! That’s some good news, right?

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
