In his Iron Man armor, but wearing no helmet, Tony Stark stands proudly above a New York City building at night. He smugly asks, “Surprised?” The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Thoughtful Avengers Presents… ‘There Goes My Hero’,” is visible at the top of the image.

All-New, All-Thoughtful Avengers #87 – ‘There Goes My Hero’

It’s only taken several unsuccessful heart-to-heart discussions to get Spider-Man to admit the error of his ways! If the Shocker couldn’t get him to see how far off the path of the superhero he’d gotten, at least Iron Man finally did. If he hadn’t, I don’t know who would’ve been left to escalate the task…

In the Wayne Manor study (a playset from the Batman ’66 TV series), Bruce Wayne stands, dressed in his Batman costume, closely examining a videocassette in his hands. His butler, Alfred Pennyworth, remarks, “You say this tape is from The Riddler, sir?”

Batman and the Mysterious VHS Tape!

Batman says he always has a plan, but evidently he didn’t think too hard about how to ensure he access all his obsolete technology! What was the plan there, Batman? You just didn’t think you’d ever need to watch a VHS tape ever again?

Agent Ross complains that he can't get past level 80 on Wakandan Tetris, and Prince T'Challa is amazed, remarking that not even his sister, the Princess Shuri, can get that fair. Ross admits that he plays the game at least 7 hours a day.

Marvel Short #54 – Practice Makes Perfect!

Sometimes, real life gets a little full, and you need to do a short, joke comic to give yourself time to catch up on your full-length comic strip production. Sometimes, too, you made an off-handed joke a few months ago about a cell phone game that you’ve really wanted to revisit, and so even though…

Spider-Man, in his greyscale Spider-Armor, stands next to Iron Man on a New York City rooftop at night. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Thoughtful Avengers Presents… ‘I Wonder’,” is visible at the top of the image.

Last week, I mentioned trying to tell some stories that dig a little more deeply into what it means to do the kinds of things superheroes do. If I’d been thinking more clearly, I would have saved that remark for this week, because that’s… pretty much this week’s entire strip!

On the set of the late-night-style talk show, "No Sleep 'Til Jonah," Reed Richards, leader of the Fantastic Four, argues from his chair: "Now, Jonah, you know the Avengers aren't hiding anything on the moon!" Jonah dismissively replies, "Malarkey! My son turned into a werewolf up there!"

Introducing… “No Sleep ‘Til Jonah!”

I’ve been wanting J. Jonah Jameson to make the leap from podcasts to full-on streaming video programming for a while, now, and I’ve finally assembled all the accessories I think I need to make it happen. And, Jonah’s gotten together all the free labor he needs to make his late-night-style talk show – “No Sleep…

Outside of the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. facility where Moon Knight was recently held captive, Damage Control’s field leader Lenny Ballinger helps him take some tentative steps out into the light of the night. With every step, Moon Knight remarks, “Ow.” The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Vengeful Avengers Presents… ‘I Sing Along With You’,” is visible at the top of the image.

Rescued! Moon Knight’s finally rescued! I’m sure his suit doesn’t smell too great, after this ordeal, so he’ll probably be stoked to change back into his classic outfit. I know I say it too often, but I’m going to say it again: I’ve been really excited to find a way to introduce Damage Control to…

In her traditional black-and-white costume, Julia Carpenter, the Spider-Woman, swings on her webs above the nighttime streets of New York City. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Vengeful Avengers Presents… ‘I’ve Waited Here for You’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

After that little palate cleanser of a visit to a parallel dimension last week, we’re back on the hunt for Moon Knight this week! We’ve got regular and Young Avengers combing the city for Spider-Woman’s special friend! So, after all these heroes have put in all this work running down S.H.I.E.L.D.’s trail, I guess it…

Through a portal that leads to an Alternate Earth, Wong and Dr. Strange step through, bravely. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Multiversal Avengers Presents… ‘Could You Take My Picture?’,” is visible at the top of the image.

Not content with juggling the storylines about a S.H.I.E.L.D.-napped Moon Knight, and Edwin Cord’s plot to take over the world, and the grudge the Mayor of NYC holds against the Avengers, I’ve decided to take a detour from all of these ongoing stories this week, to follow Dr. Strange and Wong on their visit to…

On the prison floor of Avengers Tower, James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes (better known to the world as the armored Avenger War Machine) and Tony Stark (also secretly famous as the Iron Man) stand outside of the cell in which the Leader is held prisoner. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Business Avengers Presents… ‘It Ain’t Me’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

The Leader’s accommodations at Avengers Tower sure aren’t what he was used to at the old A.I.M. base, but it’s got to be nicer than hiding in the wilderness outside of the Vault… Apparently, Moon Knight and Spider-Woman’s costume changes got Tony’s in the mood for a new look of his own! They’ve made so…

New York City’s Mayor Gruenwald (named for longtime Marvel Comics writer/editor Mark Gruenwald) and chief of police Shooter (named for Marvel editor/writer Jim Shooter) sit in front of their computers, waiting for a video meeting to start. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Business Avengers Presents… ‘This Is For The Hearts Still Beating’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

The mayor is never satisfied, is he? There’s always more he can do to consolidate power, or sideline his opponents. It wasn’t enough that he got special government operatives to declare war against the Avengers; they did it in too public a way for his liking! I might not agree with the mayor on much,…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
