All-New, All-Vengeful Avengers #84 – ‘I’ve Waited Here for You’

Posted on March 22, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
In her traditional black-and-white costume, Julia Carpenter, the Spider-Woman, swings on her webs above the nighttime streets of New York City. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Vengeful Avengers Presents… ‘I’ve Waited Here for You’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.
Spider-Woman communicates with her fellow Avengers - Kate Bishop, the Falcon, and Tigra - as they fan out across the city, in search of Moon Knight.
In a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. facility where he’s held prisoner, Moon Knight fights ‘Dum Dum’ Dugan, and loses.
Ironheart reports a lock on Moon Knight’s tracker ID card; Spider-Woman orders the rest of the Avengers, including Black Widow, to “assemble” at the location Ironheart has identified.
Dugan throws the defeated Moon Knight back into his jail cell. Agent Clay Quartermain mocks him on the other side of the iron bars.
On their various modes of transportation - sky glider, motorcycle, repulsor gauntlets, webs - the Avengers converge on the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. location.
As agents G.W. Bridge and Charles Little Sky also taunt Moon Knight, a nameless S.H.I.E.L.D. guard runs into the room, declaring that the Avengers have arrived.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, who have taken a snack break, are caught largely off-guard; Moon Knight laughs triumphantly.
Kate Bishop belatedly pulls up in her motorcycle, noticing that the other Avengers have yet to walk into the building. As they do…
…they see Spider-Man, in his Spider-Armor, and Moon Knight, standing over the captured bodies of four of the five S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Charles Little Sky is nowhere to be seen). On the bottom half of the image are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

After that little palate cleanser of a visit to a parallel dimension last week, we’re back on the hunt for Moon Knight this week! We’ve got regular and Young Avengers combing the city for Spider-Woman’s special friend! So, after all these heroes have put in all this work running down S.H.I.E.L.D.’s trail, I guess it only makes sense that angry, would-be boyfriend Spider-Man would find his romantic rival, in the end. Not that he was ever a contender anywhere outside of his mind…

Moon Knight sure does love to threaten people with the wrath of Khonshu, doesn’t he? I know that’s very much his thing, but a little variety can’t hurt.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
