All-New, All-Business Avengers #82 – ‘It Ain’t Me’

Posted on March 8, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
On the prison floor of Avengers Tower, James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes (better known to the world as the armored Avenger War Machine) and Tony Stark (also secretly famous as the Iron Man) stand outside of the cell in which the Leader is held prisoner. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Business Avengers Presents… ‘It Ain’t Me’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.
The Leader mocks Stark for wearing Iron Man’s repulser-equipped gauntlets to their meeting. Stark encourages the Leader to be a good prisoner.
The Leader reminds Stark of what he had seen at the Vault when War Machine and Thor picked him up on an empty road. He’s content to wait in his cell, to see who emerges victorious in this battle between the Avengers and the Vault’s warden, Edwin Cord.
Stark and Rhodey leave the cell block, and as they walk the halls of the tower, Rhodey suggests having the Avengers contact X-Force. They did try to break the mutant Avenger Shatterstar out of the prison once before.
Rhodey floats the Red Guardian as another member of the field team, but Stark interrupts him, when he sees the Young Avenger Ironheart fly by the window.
Stark orders Rhodey to assemble his team of Avengers, as they approach the landing bay where the War Machine armor is safely stored.
Rhodey and Stark shake hands before Rhodey prepares to depart.
Piloting his War Machine armor, Rhodey takes off from the tower. Inspired by the sight of Ironheart’s armor, Stark orders up a holographic display of the Vault Guardsmen’s armor (also a Stark Industries product).
He looks at the Silver Centurion armor next, and the as-yet-unproduced Bleeding Edge design, before calling up the Modular armor.
At the top of the image, Stark orders the computer to queue this armor design up for production. At the bottom of the image are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

The Leader’s accommodations at Avengers Tower sure aren’t what he was used to at the old A.I.M. base, but it’s got to be nicer than hiding in the wilderness outside of the Vault…

Apparently, Moon Knight and Spider-Woman’s costume changes got Tony’s in the mood for a new look of his own! They’ve made so many Iron Man action figures over the years, but the modular armor is one of my favorite designs. If there was a silver centurion variant of the modular armor, that would probably become my personal favorite, forever.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
