All-New, All-Vengeful Avengers #85 – ‘I Sing Along With You’

Posted on March 29, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
Outside of the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. facility where Moon Knight was recently held captive, Damage Control’s field leader Lenny Ballinger helps him take some tentative steps out into the light of the night. With every step, Moon Knight remarks, “Ow.” The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Vengeful Avengers Presents… ‘I Sing Along With You’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Spider-Woman embraces Moon Knight; they express how glad they are to be back with one another.
Lenny and the Falcon say hello to each other, while Spider-Woman makes a plan to get Moon Knight home.
Thor congratulates Lenny on his successful rescue of Moon Knight. Ironheart and Kate Bishop theorize that Damage Control is just a smokescreen organization to draw attention away from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s misdeeds.
As the Avengers converge around Moon Knight to determine his condition, Tigra and Black Widow notice something “up in the sky,” which turns out to be…
…Iron Man, descending in the Modular armor he had the Avengers Tower computer build for him recently. He’s looking for Spider-Man, and walks past the Falcon and Lenny when he finds his target.
Iron Man confronts the Spider-Armor’d Spider-Man about his recent behavior, like his not belonging to the Avengers.
Iron Man continues to berate Spider-Man for his string of brutal beatings of criminals recently.
Iron Man makes Spider-Man accompany him to a nearby rooftop, to continue their conversation in private. Tigra, Black Widow, and Kate Bishop all express sympathy for Spider-Man.

Rescued! Moon Knight’s finally rescued! I’m sure his suit doesn’t smell too great, after this ordeal, so he’ll probably be stoked to change back into his classic outfit.

I know I say it too often, but I’m going to say it again: I’ve been really excited to find a way to introduce Damage Control to the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe for a while, now. A superhero disaster relief organization is a great idea on its own (co-created by the namesake of our very own NYPD Detective McDuffie – the incomparable Dwayne McDuffie), but it’s especially resonant to the stories I try to tell, digging at least a little more deeply into what it means to do the kinds of things superheroes do (with varying degrees of success, admittedly).

That costume change I teased for Iron Man a couple weeks back has finally arrived! Maybe he’ll be the one who finally talks some sense into Spider-Man. Although, I doubt any of the Avengers are too furious at him for beating up the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, after what they did to one of the Avengers’ own…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
