The title image for this comic strip. The series is called “Destro & Son” (slightly styled to resemble the logo for the TV show “Sanford & Son), with profile images of both the COBRA-affiliated terrorist Destro, and the mechanical soldier known as a B.A.T. The title of this particular comic strip, “Do Unto Others!” is visible at the bottom of the image.

If the B.A.T. made its gun out of spare parts it found in Destro’s workshop, that means we’ve got ourselves a Dr. Soong -> Data -> Lal-type situation going on at COBRA HQ, doesn’t it?

War Machine, Domino, the Falcon, the Black Widow, Rage, and Thor stand on the landing platform at the rooftop of Avengers Tower, looking up into the sky. The title of the comic strip, “All-New, Overworked Avengers Presents… ‘I Want It That Way’,” is visible at the top of the image.

It’s been a while since Iron Man proper last showed up in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe – just about 14 months, in fact! Tony Stark took a real vacation, at least from super-heroics, even though he’s made some appearances via StarkComm video meetings. Ever the showman, Stark’s making his grand return…

As Domino and NYC's Mayor Gruenwald (named for longtime Marvel Comics editor/writer Mark Gruenwald) tour a campaign site in Central Park, the agitator couple Audrey and Gordon Tator chant off to the side: "Hey hey! Ho ho! The-global-elite-Satanic-conspiracy-has-got-to-go!" at them. The Mayor calls his security detail on the couple, who run away.

One of the things that I appreciate about the (current – no spoilers) mayor is that he can be pragmatic, and usually recognizes who the greater threat is. Even though he and Domino are competitors, she doesn’t think he’s a… well, whatever the conspiracy theory du jour is! For her part, Domino is a woman…

Outside of a Stark Industries warehouse, War Machine stands patiently as Spider-Man swings down to meet him. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, Overworked Avengers Presents… ‘I’m Still Alive’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

Spider-Man’s road to recovery from his No Good, Very Bad Night has been kind of a protracted one – from the moment of his injury to his subsequent rescue – and it’s one for which he’s not been on-panel! A lot of people have talked about him, and about what he means to them, but…

Domino and NYC Mayor Gruenwald (named for longtime Marvel comics editor/writer Mark Gruenwald) tour a debate site for the upcoming election. The Mayor accuses Domino of not understanding the electorate; Domino counters with the fact that only 20% of voters turned out to vote for him in the last election.

Welcome to the first in a series of short comics that get up close and personal with Domino’s campaign for mayor! I’ve plotted these out pretty carefully, and I think I should be able to do one installment, every other week, and time the “election day” installment pretty closely to the actual 2022 election day…

The Profit Director Destro action figure is, I think, a spectacular-looking action figure, and when I saw it for the very first time, I thought of about a dozen different stories I wanted to tell with him. Thanks to some unexpected free time this past weekend, I was able to start one of those stories!

The heavy Mandalorian and R5 explore the forests of the planet Gorsan. The title of this comic strip, “Episode XI: As Above, So Below,” is visible at the top of the image.

When I said I was taking a break from my Star Wars toy comic after its last installment, I didn’t really expect to take about a year and a half off from it, but life (and inspiration) sure find ways to pull you in unanticipated directions. My Mandalorian and R5 are back, at least for…

Tony Stark and Mayor Gruenwald of New York City (named for longtime Marvel comics editor/writer Mark Gruenwald) talk before their video conference meeting officially begins. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, Overworked Avengers Presents… ‘Somewhere I Belong’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

This is kind of a mess of a meeting, here, but that’s what you get when the people running it are operating at cross purposes! I am thrilled, however, to finally get to introduce the President of the United States of America in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe. I’ve had my eye…

Along the Ukraine border, the X-Men Wolverine and Colossus mill around, enjoying the momentary quiet.

The third, and for now, final installment of the superheroes’ fight for Ukraine is here, and I figured there was no duo better suited to cap this little power fantasy exercise of mine than Colossus and Wolverine. Iron Man and Darkstar in the first entry fought the battle from the air, and Red Guardian and…

In a hallway inside an apartment building, Tommy, the White Ranger, stands in front of the Shredder, empowered by the Green Ranger abilities that Tommy once possessed. Tommy shouts, “Get out of my face, man!” The title of this comic strip, “R*A*N*G*E*R*S in… ‘Go Go Legal Contracts!’,” is visible at the top of the image. The R*A*N*G*E*R*S logo is stylized to resemble the logo for the TV show FRIENDS.

Building on the previous strip, it looks like Lord Zedd has a few enforcers that he likes to send out to his buildings and harass his tenants, doesn’t it? Good thing at least some of these renters know how to stand up for themselves! In my anecdotal experience, it seems like people vastly prefer Tommy…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
