Destro & Son #1 – “My Creation!”

The title image for this comic strip. The series is called “Destro & Son” (slightly styled to resemble the logo for the TV show “Sanford & Son), with profile images of both the COBRA-affiliated terrorist Destro, and the mechanical soldier known as a B.A.T. The title of this particular comic strip, “My Creation!” is visible at the bottom of the image.
In front of a makeshift workstation, Destro taps away at his computer. “Synaptic generators at 80 percent… 90!” he shouts.
“Tactile perception, online!” Destro seems to order the computer.
As the light in the scene grows brighter still, Destro strikes a few final keys on his computer. “Maximum power!” he shouts over the humming sound of the power generators.
Destro throws his hands in the air; the light in the scene is brighter. “The reaction is self-sustaining!” he cheers. “It’s alive!”
The light mostly returns to normal. Destro throws on a pair of sunglasses as he remarks, “Gotta make a good first impression…”
Seen from the knees down, a B.A.T. soldier takes its first tentative steps forward with a loud CLANG! sound. “Huuh…” is all it can say, to start.
The full-body image of the B.A.T., holding its hands in front of its head. “Wha… What is this?” it asks. “I, I… feel the light on my body… I possess a physical form?”
Destro proudly stands before the B.A.T., declaring, “You are the first! The beginning of a new age in consciousness, in life!”
His hand on the B.A.T.’s back, Destro continues, “The power of a million Pentium Pro chips drives your mind!”
Destro and the B.A.T. embrace with a loud THUNK, as Destro calls the B.A.T., “My… My son!”
The credits for this comic strip, including the use of particular fonts created by Blambot, the ownership of G.I. JOE by Hasbro, the creation of G.I. JOE characters by actual factual people, and the photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

The Profit Director Destro action figure is, I think, a spectacular-looking action figure, and when I saw it for the very first time, I thought of about a dozen different stories I wanted to tell with him. Thanks to some unexpected free time this past weekend, I was able to start one of those stories!
