RANGERS #2 – “Go Go Legal Contracts!”

In a hallway inside an apartment building, Tommy, the White Ranger, stands in front of the Shredder, empowered by the Green Ranger abilities that Tommy once possessed. Tommy shouts, “Get out of my face, man!” The title of this comic strip, “R*A*N*G*E*R*S in… ‘Go Go Legal Contracts!’,” is visible at the top of the image. The R*A*N*G*E*R*S logo is stylized to resemble the logo for the TV show FRIENDS.
Shaking his fist, Tommy declares, “Just because you teach our landlord karate, doesn’t mean you have any authority in the building!”
Shredder raises a hand to Tommy, saying, “That thing on your hip, it is a pet! They are not allowed in here!” Shredder makes this in reference to the sentient, talking sword that Tommy carries, Saba.
Shredder seems to ready himself for battle, and continues, saying, “Of course, by sneaking it in, you have forfeited… your security deposit!” Tommy fires back, “Oh, you want to talk rule-breaking?”
Tommy whips Saba out from his hip holster, and the sword joins the argument. “What about you, turning the laundry room into a fight club?” Saba asks. “Or taking up the entire parking lot with the Dragonzord?”
Shredder throws his hands in the air furiously, saying, “What trickery is this?!”
Tommy advances on Shredder, holding Saba closer and closer. “I am Saba!” the sword declares. “I was forged from the Morphing Grid! I recall all!”
“My name is on the lease!!” Saba boldly shouts.
The credits for this comic strip, including the photographers whose pictures provided some of the background art, the use of fonts by Blambot, acknowledgement of the creators and owners of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, Power Rangers in Space, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the MMPR/TMNT crossover comic, and that the character photography, script, and lettering were all done by me, Phil Wrede.

Building on the previous strip, it looks like Lord Zedd has a few enforcers that he likes to send out to his buildings and harass his tenants, doesn’t it? Good thing at least some of these renters know how to stand up for themselves!

In my anecdotal experience, it seems like people vastly prefer Tommy Oliver as the Green Ranger, rather than the White Ranger, and I get it – the Dragonzord is far neater-looking than the White Tiger Thunderzord, the shield on his chest and the styling on his helmet is also more awesome, and the Dragon Dagger just looks cool. The Green Ranger is kind of a masterpiece of style; heck, blending his design with Shredder’s got us the rather-intimidating action figure above! For me, though, the thing that really recommends Tommy’s second set of Power Ranger powers is his sentient sword, Saba. They bounced off one another really well in the show, a great pair of bickering action heroes. Interpersonal touches like that always elevate stories, for me.
