All-New, All-Capitol Avengers #114 – ‘Like A Leech’

Posted on November 22, 2023November 14, 2023 by phil.wrede
Outside of the White House, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Wurmser (“played” in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe by an action figure of Arnold Schwarzenegger) and President Kirby (“played” by an action figure of Bruce Campbell) go for a walk. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Capitol Avengers Presents… ‘Like A Leech’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Kirby and Wurmser argue about the Avengers, and the incident at the Hammer Gala. Kirby is reluctantly forced to defend the Avengers’ actions against Wurmser’s suspicions.
They walk into the Oval Office; Kirby’s not happy about the Avengers leaving another mess after a public fight, regardless of who’s to blame for starting it, or how they ended it.
Wurmser accuses the President of keeping his own agents in New York City, even as he’s tasked Wurmser specifically with acting as a counter to the Avengers’ activities. Kirby threatens Wurmser with demotion or worse.
From outside, New York City Mayor Gruenwald (“played” by an action figure of Peter Capaldi) walks into the Oval Office and joins the conversation; presumably, he was invited by the President. The Mayor argues a third position in the conversation: that he has ultimate authority over what happens on the streets of NYC.
Kirby and Gruenwald trade insults. Wurmser is frustrated by how the discussion has degraded.
The Mayor offers an ultimatum: either the President and Wurmser can collaborate with him, or they can take themselves out of New York City entirely. Kirby makes another veiled threat to the Mayor’s term limitations.
The Mayor walks out of the Oval Office, and meets his military advisor, Major Steinberg (“played” here by an action figure of Elisabeth Sladen).
As Gruenwald and Steinberg agree to move forward with the next phase of their nebulous plan, Kirby and Wurmser discuss the surveillance under which they’ve had the Mayor and the Major.

It’s been a bit since we were introduced to Agent Wurmser, got a visit from the President, and have seen most anybody from S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s been even longer since we checked in with the Mayor, or the Major! Don’t worry, though – while our heroes have been busy protecting a party of the 0.1%, or visiting other dimensions, the recurring human characters have been plotting, and scheming, and constantly arguing with one another. The fun never stops in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
