All-New, All-Seasonal Avengers #71 – ‘You Better Not Pout’

As Domino and the Black Cat try to formulate another battle plan, they are relieved to see Spider-Man, wearing his black-and-silver Spider Armor, swing out of the air and deliver a brutal kick into the Shocker.
The Shocker tries to struggle to his feet, but Spider-Man advances on him.
Spider-Man shoots webbing on the Shocker’s hands and traps him on the ground.
Spider-Man threatens to beat the bound Shocker senseless, and the Shocker expresses disappointment at losing an unfair fight.
Before the violence can commence, Miles Morales, in his Spider-Man mask, swings down and pleads with Spider-Man not to behave this way.
Even the Shocker tells Spider-Man he’s been going too far down the dark and gritty path, ever since Red Skull shot him. Miles tries to make Spider-Man understand how extraordinary this is, that even his foes think he’s lost his balance.
Spider-Man shouts them both down, and web-swings away.
As Domino and the Black Cat try to console Miles, the Shocker generates a burst of energy from his gauntlets strong enough to dissolve the webbing trapping him.
At the top half of the image, the Shocker tries to attack our heroes again, but Domino guns him down with a stun bullet, easily. At the bottom half of the image are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

I said I was trying to bring things full-circle in this holiday adventure in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe… This week, the return of the grimdark Spider-Man who, clearly, hasn’t dealt with whatever residual trauma he’s still carrying around from the Red Skull’s sneak attack on his No Good, Very Bad Night! Maybe everybody – even The Shocker – calling him out on his uncharacteristic behavior will finally get through to him.

(What’s the Red Skull been up to, since he shot Spider-Man? That’s a great question! Maybe I’ll get around to answering it in 2023!)
