I had a surprising amount of fun designing the various corporate icons and logos that pop up in the comic. The Daily Bugle’s logo is probably my favorite, followed by the one for Hammer Industries.
J. Jonah Jameson pulled out to an early lead as my favorite character to write in this comic, and frankly, nobody’s ever challenged that position. I try not to overload the comic with JJJ appearances, and I hope every one of them is as special to a reader as they are to me. I do like the strangely formal affect that Iron Man utilized in the comic’s early going, but I clearly abandoned that, in favor of trying to do the best job of channeling Robert Downey, Jr., that I could do.
Results have varied, I’ll admit. I’ve also really enjoyed writing Miles Morales, who makes his first (off-panel) appearance in this strip.
Too, this strip contains some of my very favorite jokes that have made their way into the comic. Rage shaking his fists in fear (or fury) at the sight of Doctor Doom, when in reality, it’s Whirlwind (who barely deserves being described as a supervillain, next to Doctor Doom) approaching will never not make me laugh. I’m still really pleased with how Iron Man’s podcast ad read came out, too.
Finally, when I found his action figure, I’d vowed to myself to find a way to work in Whirlwind’s laugh from the Captain America and the Avengers game, and I succeeded! At least, up to my standards.
