All-New, All-Remote Avengers #15 – ‘Take My Breath Away’

Posted on April 8, 2021September 17, 2023 by phil.wrede
A helicopter approaches the Daily Bugle building, as seen in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies. The title of the comic strip, "All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents... 'Take My Breath Away'," is visible on the left side of the page.
The Leader, Spymaster, and two Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) agents step out of the helicopter, and into the building. Nobody else is there, it seems, and the A.I.M. agents don't seem to entirely understand the purpose of this mission.
The leader blows open an office door, and J. Jonah Jameson incredulously emerges from it, barking questions.
The Leader mocks Jameson, and announces his intention to turn Jameson's skills with the media to his own purposes. Jameson is not interested.
The Leader uses his mental powers to lift Jameson into the air, and torment him.
The Leader drops Jameson to the floor, while Spymaster breaks into the Daily Bugle's private files, and one A.I.M. agent takes the opportunity to quote Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator, ordering Jameson to, "get to the choppa."
The A.I.M. agent perp walks Jameson up to the roof, and we see that Spider-Man is climbing along the outside wall of the Bugle building, hoping to sneak in and grab his paycheck.
Spider-Man reluctantly realizes that he's going to have to save his civilian identity's overbearing boss.
As the helicopter flies away, a familiar face, who was on his way to play chess with J. Jonah Jameson over lunch, observes that his lunch plans have probably opened up...
The credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, briefly memorializing Stan Lee, and mentioning that the figure photography/script/lettering are by me, Phil Wrede.

I may be a little too pleased with how this comic turned out, but at the time I completed it, it was probably my favorite one, to date. Everything just came together, from the character poses, to the dialogue (Jonah and The Leader did a surprisingly good job of bouncing off each other), and the angles of the background images.

I, obviously, owe a tremendous debt to J.K. Simmons, Sam Raimi, and every person who worked to make those three Spider-Man movies the treasures that they are. The best hat-tip I could think to do was to try and incorporate the Daily Bugle as they presented it in the melange of people and places that is the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe. Why try to improve upon perfection?

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
