I like this fight scene, by and large. I especially like the Falcon using his wings as an offensive weapon, and the little “motion” accessory stand for Cap’s shield.
Speaking of Cap… What an addition to the cast today, huh? Captain America was my favorite Marvel superhero for years, and years, and years (probably still is, on a real gut level). I remember seeing an action figure of his, back in an old Kay-Bee Toys in the local shopping mall, when I was very little, and being enraptured by the possibilities of his shield. I’d never read a Captain America comic before, but it hardly mattered. He had an incredible accessory! A shield! It can do so many things!
I felt very seen when, in Captain America: The First Avenger, Cap tells Howard Stark that the shield is, “handier than you might think.”
On the subject of quotes, I’ve mentioned before that I was dead-set on finding a way to quote as much of the limited dialogue from the Captain America and the Avengers game as I could in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe, and I’m ecstatic to have gotten to do it again, here.
In retrospect, I think having HYDRA try to gun Rage down in the street (offhandedly) was in poor taste, at best. I never touch on it again, which could either be a good attempt to move past a trauma-evoking mistake, or a real missed opportunity to try and dig into the symbolism of a bulletproof superhero. It depends on where you sit, I suppose.
