All-New, All-Remote Avengers #17 – ‘Everybody Needs Somebody’

Posted on April 22, 2021September 17, 2023 by phil.wrede
Iron Man lands in a nondescript parking lot. The title of the comic strip, "All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents... 'Everybody Needs Somebody'," is visible on the left-hand portion of the page. The location caption reads, "Nearer Stark Tower than you might think..."
Domino confronts Iron Man outside the entrance to a warehouse. He offers to help her with whatever battle she, War Machine, and the rest of the recently-resigned Avengers are off to fight, but she isn't interested in his help.
War Machine takes Domino's side in the argument, which she clearly wasn't expecting to happen.
It becomes clear that Domino is angry at Iron Man for more than just his recent behavior, and War Machine offers to talk to him, one-on-one.
Iron Man and War Machine step into the warehouse proper, and War Machine tries to explain to Iron Man what about his behavior puts off the former Avengers.
Before they can truly begin to argue, Iron Man offers to put his natural instinct to boss people along aside, for now, so he can accompany the former Avengers on their mission to stop The Leader.
War Machine tries to get the last word in, but Iron Man won't let him.
The credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

When your heroes have a fight, they’ve got to make up. It’s a comics storytelling rule, for sure, and probably in stories, generally, too. War Machine and Iron Man have shouted at each other and forgiven one another so many times that they’ve probably both lost count by now. At least they’re comfortable enough that they can just express their feelings. That’s probably less toxic than a lot of male friendships in popular media!

Tony Stark might be an entitled, privileged jerk, who gets his kicks punching robots from inside a metal suit, and bossing around people who are objectively more powerful than him, but when the chips are down, he does recognize the value of those people. He sees them as people, which is more than you can say for a lot of other billionaires.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
