All-New, All-Coordinated Avengers #89 – ‘Run and Tell All of the Angels’

Posted on May 10, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede

In a field outside of the The Vault prison in the Rocky Mountains, Wolverine, Sunspot, Warpath, Dazzler, and Cable stand like they’re waiting for something. Wolverine, in particular, is looking up into the sky. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Coordinated Avengers Presents… ‘Run and Tell All of the Angels’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Sunspot complains that he’s tired of waiting. Wolverine pops out his claws with a mighty SNIKT and gestures off towards The Vault, shouting that X-Force tried assaulting the prison without a plan once before. This time, he’s going to make sure they stick to their plan!
Several members of the Avengers - the Beast, the Amazing Spider-Man, the android Jocasta, and the Russian hero Red Guardian - storm into view dramatically.
The Avengers and X-Force face off, until the Avengers reveal that they have been sent by Iron Man to back up this latest incursion into The Vault.
Beast and Wolverine excitedly greet one another. Warpath and Sunspot converge on Red Guardian, who seems less excited to talk with the two of them.
Spider-Man makes Dazzler feel old, talking about how much he liked her music as a child, and Cable asks Jocasta for her expert opinion, as an android, on the spread of his techno-organic virus.
Inside The Vault, warden and all-around-megalomaniac Edwin Cord takes a video meeting call.
Tony Stark appears at the other end of the call, wearing all of his Iron Man armor, sans helmet. Presumably, this means Cord is aware of his secret identity.
Stark confronts Cord with the information that the Leader shared with him, while in Avengers custody, and Cord unceremoniously disconnects the call before Stark can press him for any information.
On the top half of the image, Stark places his helmet on his head, and sends word to Wolverine that the joint Avengers/X-Force mission is a go. On the bottom half of the image are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

Now that Spider-Man’s been freed from the clutches of his own inner demons (for now), the Avengers and X-Force can finally dig into the family bucket-sized problem that is Edwin Cord and his mind-controlled army!

That is, if the two teams can stop chatting each other up, and get down to business…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
