All-New, All-Capitol Avengers #118 – ‘But If You Preach…’

Posted on December 20, 2023December 17, 2023 by phil.wrede
Bound to a forklift in a darkened warehouse, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Charles Little Sky looks on in irritation as Wolverine and Captain America stand before him. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Capitol Avengers Presents… ‘But If You Preach…’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Little Sky promises Cap he can take whatever torture the star-spangled Avenger can dish out; Cap swears they didn’t bring Little Sky here to torture him.
At the other end of the room, Moon Knight, War Machine, and Spider-Woman stand watch, ready for whatever Little Sky might try to do to escape.
Little Sky mocks his captors, and Wolverine sticks his adamantium claws in his captive’s face in response.
The Avengers theorize why S.H.I.E.L.D., as a unit under the command of the executive branch, would try to assassinate the mayor of New York City.
The Avengers get distracted as they argue.
The power to the warehouse is cut; the lights go out.
War Machine detects movement approaching from outside of the warehouse. Wolverine and Cap agree to guard the prisoner, while War Machine, Moon Knight, and Spider-Woman go outside to face whatever’s coming.
The three Avengers bound for the outside head on out.
Three S.H.I.E.L.D. troopers approach Cap and Wolverine, stealthily.
One of the troopers observes that their new scent-masking technology clearly works, as he strikes Wolverine’s head with the barrel of his gun.
The trooper shoots Wolverine in the head, for popping his claws out. Cap tries to calm the situation down.
On the top half of the image, another S.H.I.E.L.D. trooper sticks his guns in Cap’s face, forcing Cap to raise his hands in surrender. On the bottom half are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the use of stock visual effect photography by Action VFX, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

It’s been a bit (almost ten months!) since Spider-Woman and Moon Knight last faced off against S.H.I.E.L.D., and that encounter didn’t go so well for the Avengers side! Even Moon Knight’s successful rescue turned out… anticlimactic, when S.H.I.E.L.D. came along to retrieve their misbegotten agents, and let them back on the street almost immediately. No wonder the Avengers don’t mind a second bout with the agents!

One important question remains, after all the catching-up this blog post has done: will Charles Little Sky reveal to the Avengers that he knows Iron Man’s true identity? Did he tell the President, when he learned of it? How long do you keep that information in reserve, and when do you let it slip?

That’s more than one question, isn’t it?

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
