All-New, All-Capitol Avengers #119 – ‘The World is in Your Way’

Posted on December 27, 2023December 22, 2023 by phil.wrede
S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Charles Little Sky is freed from the bindings that bound him to a forklift in an anonymous warehouse somewhere in Washington, D.C. An anonymous S.H.I.E.L.D. trooper stands next to him, freeing him from those bonds. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Capitol Avengers Presents… ‘The World is in Your Way’,” is visible at the top of the image.
On the ground, Wolverine pushes himself to his feet as his face heals from the machine gun rounds fired into it in the previous comic strip. Captain America tries to encourage Wolverine to keep his focus.
As the trooper hands Charles Little Sky a pistol, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents further mock the Avengers’ teamwork. Wolverine tries to fire back with a verbal barb of his own.
Charles Little Sky and his two trooper allies pose before Wolverine and Cap, and Little Sky fairly accurately explains how the allegiance he and his non-superpowered allies have to one another is at least as important as the Avengers’ comradeship.
Little Sky also explains that one trooper will stay behind, to cover his escape. Wolverine vows to hunt Little Sky and the two S.H.I.E.L.D. troopers down, as soon as he gets out of the warehouse.
The remaining trooper sounds very scared when he asks Wolverine to clarify his remarks, and that confusion is enough for Cap to clear the distance between them and knock the trooper’s gun down.
Cap uppercuts the trooper, knocking him clear off his feet.
Wolverine brings one of his adamantium-laced fists down to bring the trooper back to earth; he and Cap share a moment over the trooper’s unconscious body.
Meanwhile, Mayor Gruenwald of New York City (“played” by an action figure of Peter Capaldi), his military liaison Major Steinberg (“played” by an action figure of Elisabeth Sladen), and the President of the United States (“played” by an action figure of Bruce Campbell) all get on a video chat call together.

The tables have apparently turned on the Avengers in this week’s comic! Thanks to a combination of advanced technology and a good, old-fashioned diversion, the captive S.H.I.E.L.D. agent has become the captor! Don’t worry, now – the Avengers are never down for long…

We also get a chance to check in with the elected leaders of New York City and the free world, after the life-threatening events that kicked off this series of comic strips. The real world doesn’t stop spinning for any one incident; there’s no reason it should be any different in my toy comics!

Even I have to wonder about S.H.I.E.L.D.’s recruiting process in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe – seemingly everybody, from named characters all the way to faceless grunts, is willing to throw themselves at the Avengers for little or no gain, at all. Do they just ask you to mark down how much you hate the Avengers, on a scale of 1-10? You’d figure that an elite, covert military intelligence operation run directly by the President of the United States would have more to do than fight the Avengers, wouldn’t you?

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
