All-New, Back-in-Black Avengers #88 – ‘Yes I’m Back’

Iron Man leads Miles Morales (in his Spider-Man mask) and the Fabulous Frog-Man down the halls of Avengers Tower. Iron Man says, “Thanks for coming, guys.” The title of this comic strip, “All-New, Back-in-Black Avengers Presents… ‘Yes I’m Back’,” is visible in the top-left corner of the image.
2. Frog-Man addresses Miles by his real name, which makes Miles very upset. He again asks Frog-Man - whom he also knows as fellow Midtown High student Eugene Patilio - to respect his secret identity. Iron Man interrupts to ask if they wanted to argue, or take the grand tour.
3. Miles and Frog-Man apologize, running to Iron Man, asking to take the tour. Iron Man tells them that apologizing just takes up time!
In a lab within Avengers Tower, Spider-Man, still in his greyscale Spider-Armor, thanks War Machine for helping him get another crack at a grand costume redesign. He already has an idea, one that he thinks is rather… elegant!
War Machine comes out of the lab to greet Miles and Frog-Man. Frog-Man is overly enthusiastic, while Miles is just kind of uncomfortable when War Machine calls him, “bro.” He doesn’t want Eugene to know that War Machine knows his true identity, too.
Frog-Man asks Miles if he’s really on a “bro-name basis,” and Miles has to admit that, yes, it looks like they are. In the privacy of the lab, Spider-Man has removed the armor plates from his costume, leaving him in just the classic “black suit.”
Spider-Man walks down the hallway towards Iron Man, War Machine, and their guests in his black costume, asking, “Well, what do you think?”
Everyone is varying degrees of complimentary, though Miles and Frog-Man are the most enthusiastic.
Iron Man admits he’s glad to have one less armored hero around to compete with. Spider-Man declares that, “The Amazing Spider-Man is back, baby! And he’s packing an Avengers ID card, now!”
On the top half of the image, Iron Man asks War Machine if he told Spider-Man he was getting reinstated as an Avenger, and War Machine admits he let Spider-Man believe that he would. On the bottom half are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

After all the drama from Spider-Man’s No Good, Very Bad Night: the shooting, the treatment, the trauma-induced costume change, the savage beatings… We wound up back in Avengers Tower, with Spider-Man putting on a black costume. He sure loves that black costume! But, we did get a peek under his mask. We’re the only ones who know who’s wearing that mask (probably)!

Speaking of secret identities, Frog-Man just can’t help himself from almost revealing Miles’, can he?
