All-New, All-Business Avengers #75 – ‘You Know Better Than I Do’

Posted on January 18, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
On a video chat, Tony Stark tries to lift the spirits of his best friend, Jim Rhodes (known to much of the world as the superhero War Machine), after the news about his and Domino’s “break” in their relationship surfaced. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Business Avengers Presents… ‘You Know Better Than I Do’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.
Rage and Captain America join the call, indicating they, too, are here to help Rhodey take his mind off his romantic troubles.
Thor also joins the call, though he misunderstood its purpose, and takes off flying away from his webcam when he hears that Rhodey and Domino broke up.
Thor sits down next to Rhodey, and attempts to rub his shoulders through his armored costume. The Hulk, and She-Hulk, join in the call.
Red Guardian signs on, now!
Rage and She-Hulk don’t react well to Red Guardian’s arrival, and he explains that Stark invited him. They’re friends!
Captain America mistakenly lumps Red Guardian in with the Russian military and political forces behind the country’s invasion of Ukraine, and Red Guardian immediately corrects Cap’s incorrect assumption.
A Vault Guardsman breaks into the call, reporting that something bad is happening with the prisoners, and hoping to speak to Iron Man.
The Guardsman’s call is cut off; Thor volunteers himself and Rhodey to go and investigate the goings-on there.
On the top half of the image is the StarkComm signoff logo. On the bottom half are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

If you thought the Avengers were going to get a break after the commotion of the Holiday Adventure… I don’t know what sort of superhero comics you’ve been reading all these years!

It’s been a while since we really paid much mind to The Vault, the prison for super-criminals in the Rocky Mountains, and X-Force’s failed attempt to break Shatterstar out from behind its walls. Sure, J. Jonah Jameson made a little hay out of the fiasco, but even he didn’t chase the story with any dedication. It’s always dangerous when you leave a villain unsupervised for too long, and Edwin Cord has certainly had more than enough time to marshal his mind-controlled forces!

War Machine and Domino’s relationship sure has had its ups and downs throughout these comics; sometimes, I guess, the downs outnumber the ups. There’s no way they’ve both given up on it, not forever. Even if they’re tempted, Thor, the God of Thunder and Encouragement, wouldn’t let them give up on one another!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
