All-New, All-Seasonal Avengers #69 – ‘You Better Watch Out’

Posted on December 7, 2022September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
In downtown New York City, decorated for the holidays, the Fabulous Frog-Man stands at attention, and salutes. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Seasonal Avengers Presents… ‘You Better Watch Out’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Frog-Man tries to share some news with Domino that weighs heavily on him, but it’s not easy. Domino tries to encourage him to let it out.
Frog-Man finally tells Domino that, on the night of the election - which Domino lost - he saw the Black Cat in the company of some HYDRA agents. HYDRA, which took a strong position in favor of the current Mayor of NYC in the election. Domino is distressed; she and the Black Cat promised they’d never use their complimentary good- and bad-luck powers against one another. More than that, Black Cat is probably Domino’s best friend.
The Black Cat lands on the ground behind Domino and Frog-Man. Frog-Man excuses himself from their conversation.
Black Cat tries to explain herself to Domino; Domino is annoyed that her supposed “best friend” waited until after the election to tell her about the HYDRA situation.
Black Cat swears to Domino that she didn’t do anything to impact the outcome of the election, and points to an approaching monster truck which, she claims, is driven by HYDRA agents.
They look closely at the cab of the monster truck, which is decorated like a fish skeleton, for some reason, and see Baron Zemo driving it. Domino orders Frog-Man to disengage, right away.
After a moment’s discussion, Frog-Man agrees to go and find help for Domino and the Black Cat in the approaching battle.
Black Cat and Domino steel themselves for the arrival of HYDRA, and Zemo, his agents, and the supervillain Shocker emerge from the truck.

I have a long list of ideas for stories I’d like to get around to telling in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe. Two of the earliest entries, which I wrote down before I ever took a single photo for the comic, were “Christmas adventure,” and “Domino and Black Cat good/bad luck powers challenge.” After how things were left in the last installment of the Election Season story, it kind of felt like I had to combine those two story ideas to bring even a little bit of conclusion to this year’s adventures in the #PWMAFCU. What a busy year it’s been!

I tried to schedule out this arc to line up closely with the holiday season in the real world, but I think I had a few too many ideas for my own good, and so this very calendar-dependent tale will linger a little past its sell-by date. I hope it’ll be entertaining enough that you won’t mind!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
