In this comic strip, Captain America and the Falcon discuss Cap's less-than-successful love life, since being thawed from the block of ice that preserved him at the end of World War II. Cap doesn't exactly agree with how the Falcon tries to impress his dates.

Marvel Short #17 – Blind Date Avengers

Life got pretty busy, here, all of a sudden, thanks to graduate school homework. I even missed a whole week of comic posting, I got so buried. So, I’ve switched the name of the comic strip (again) to All-New, Overworked Avengers, and had to dial my comic productivity back to one of these four-panel strips…

Caption text at the top of the image sets the stage for this comic strip: “In the last decade of the 24th century…” In the bottom half of the image is a hallway aboard the wreckage of a Cardassian convoy, as crew members from the Constellation-class starship Ingenuity are beamed aboard. The title of this comic series - Star Trek: Fenris Rangers - is visible on the middle-right edge of the image.

Back to the action, after some delay, once again! (and, once again, a blog post waits below, for anybody interested in what I thought of the first season of The Captain Picard Show, as it was originally airing!) from Feburary 24, 2020 (about episode 5): (I’ve mentioned my dislike for moment-by-moment recaps and reactions to…

In a Long Island beach house (per the location caption), a man stands with his back to the reader, holding a glass in a raised hand. He starts to say, “You’re, uh, you’re probably wondering…” The title of the comic strip, “All-New, Rebranded Avengers Presents… ‘Your Friends, They All Come Crawling’,” at the bottom of the image.

Hopefully, somebody besides me was excitedly anticipating the arrival of Justin Hammer, ever since his presence was confirmed in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe earlier this year. Tony Stark can never have too many rivals or antagonists, after all! I think this marks the first of my comic strips without a single…

Captain America stands outside of Avengers Tower, unmasked, with his hands in the air. He says, “This is a challenging time…” Domino stands behind him, looking vaguely annoyed. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, Rebranded Avengers Presents… ‘Here I Am’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

In the MCU, and throughout most of Marvel Comics’ history, Captain America’s always been the guy who declares, unambiguously and forcefully, what he thinks is right, and stands by his words. Though it might result in a calamity, like the wrecking of New York City in the Civil War comics event, or him resigning his…

A group of civilians protest the Avengers in the parking lot across from the Avengers tower. Their leader, the woman that called HYDRA to come attack the food truck vendors in the park, holds a sign that reads, “Aveng-ares? More like, Aveng-aren’ts!!” The title of the comic strip, “All-New, Rebranded Avengers Presents… ‘Jokers to the Right’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

If there’s anything we’ve learned from the last several years, it’s that unchecked online radicalization has the unfortunate tendency to leak into the real world. The internet: it’s not just an imaginary place, anymore (not that it ever was before)! Not even the Avengers are safe from the people who went down all the worst…

In the gym at Avengers Tower, Rage and Domino are sparring, as the sun comes up. The title of the comic strip, “Clowns to the Left of Me’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

A training session is always a good way to kick off a fresh direction in a story, I think! A conversation and some low-stakes action? What better way to set the table for everything to come than that? Thor sure is staying busy, isn’t he? Between general morale-boosting work, and driving the bus to the…

Caption text at the top of the image sets the stage for this comic strip: “In the last decade of the 24th century…” In the bottom half of the image is the bridge of the Constellation-class starship Ingenuity. Jake Sisko, Ro Laren, and Tom Riker all mill around the Ops and Conn stations. The title of this comic series - Star Trek: Fenris Rangers - is visible on the bridge’s viewscreen.

It’s been a little bit since the last entry in my Fenris Rangers comic, but once again, we’re picking up right where we left off, with the Galor-class ship taking our heroes to the site of the mysterious attack on the Cardassian convoy! (as always, there’s an archival blog post of mine regarding an episode…

Spider-Man and Spider-Woman (who’s back, for some reason) watch the streets of New York City at night, from high atop the roof of a building. The title of the comic strip, “All-New, Rebranded Avengers Presents… ‘Can’t Believe This Is it’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

Obviously, HYDRA has to have a leader; this gang of frustrated and obnoxious men wouldn’t have organized itself without someone pulling them all together. Since old men have been manipulating young men into fighting their wars for them for as long as humans have been waging war, it made sense to me to make Baron…

The Mayor of New York City, Mayor Gruenwald (named for late Marvel Comics writer/editor Mark Gruenwald), Domino, an NYPD officer, and War Machine are all on a video conference call. The title of the comic strip, “All-New, Rebranded Avengers Presents… ‘I’d Rather Be Dead Than Have It Be True’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.

I imagine it would be quite the trying thing, being the Mayor of New York City, and having all these incredibly powerful people, over whom you have no material authority, trying to stop crimes, and battling each other in the street regularly. When all you can really do is try to pick up the pieces…

Caption text at the top of the image sets the stage for this comic strip: “In the last decade of the 24th century…” In the bottom half of the image is the Constellation-class starship Ingenuity, face-to-face with a Cardassian Galor-class warship, at the edge of the former Romulan Neutral Zone. The title of this comic series - Star Trek: Fenris Rangers - is visible along the middle-right edge.

Picking up exactly where we left off last week, with Seven of Nine and the Fenris Rangers aboard their disabled starship, facing off against some furious Cardassians. How will they get out of this one? Well, read on, and find out! (once again, prepare for another archival episode-by-episode reaction of mine to the first season…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
