In the MCU, and throughout most of Marvel Comics’ history, Captain America’s always been the guy who declares, unambiguously and forcefully, what he thinks is right, and stands by his words. Though it might result in a calamity, like the wrecking of New York City in the Civil War comics event, or him resigning his position as Captain America, Sharon Carter summed up his attitude quite effectively when she quoted her late Aunt Peggy in the Civil War movie, “Tell the whole world, ‘No, you move'” (which, if you’re reading this, you probably know is a variation of a line of Cap’s from the Civil War comics, which traces its lineage back to a Mark Twain quote).
The Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Universe’s version of Cap is a little different, in that he’s usually a device meant to emphasize the difference in the worldview between the older guard heroes (Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, etc.) and the heroes who are usually standing front and center in these comics (Domino, Rage, Spider-Woman, etc.). To hear this Captain America in 2021 is, in some ways, like watching an episode of The West Wing. Not inherently bad, not at all, but also not… with the needs of the present moment.
I think these differences are summed up pretty well today in the ways Cap and Domino, in turn, address the crowd.
