In the offices of the Daily Bugle, across the pool table that fills the staff break room, John Walker, the U.S. Agent stands and brandishes a cell phone. On the other side are editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson, and his son, the retired astronaut John Jameson. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Eventful Avengers Presents… ‘We Will Find Out What’s to Know’,” is visible at the top of the image.

All-New, All-Eventful Avengers #111 – ‘We Will Find Out What’s to Know’

The Hammer Gala has turned from a formal celebration into quite the raucous affair, since the last time we visited it! Villains galore are crashing the party! I wonder if Justin Hammer is enjoying watching the Avengers struggle to defend his home enough to offset the heartache he’s surely feeling as his property falls under…

Atop a building’s roof in Long Island, the Avenger the Falcon, and the Young Avengers Frog-Man and Kate Bishop, stand guard over Justin Hammer’s fall celebration party. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Eventful Avengers Presents… ‘Only to Burn Up Both Our Hands’,” is visible at the top of the image.

Welcome back to Justin Hammer’s fall ball (AKA the Hammer Gala), or, to the exterior of it, anyway! It only makes sense that the Avengers would be doing some security for the event, and that a few Young Avengers, like Kate Bishop and Frog-Man, would get the chance to log a few practicum hours. It’s…

Outside of Justin Hammer’s Long Island mansion in the evening, Jocasta, Luis, James “Rhodey” Rhodes, and Tony Stark approach to attend the Hammer Gala. Tony is in a wheelchair, the result of an accident he suffered while hot-dogging in the Iron Man armor. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Eventful Avengers Presents… ‘We Continue to Chase the Sun’,” is visible at the top of the image.

After a couple of weeks of place-setting, we’re here, now, at Justin Hammer’s Fall Ball (more appropriately, the “Hammer Gala”)! Tony and Jocasta really step out with his high-society peers tonight; let’s see how they do! One of the fun problems about having a “cast” of characters that’s deep, and a list of story ideas…

War Machine and Jocasta hurriedly discuss how they're going to cover up the latest injury Tony Stark got while hot-dogging it in his Iron Man armor.

Last week’s short comic actually helped me realize that we need a little more context before diving into the next storyarc of the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe, so here, have another one! I need more time to properly angle all my photos for the next full-length comic strip, anyway…

Tony Stark and Jocasta plot a scheme to make it seem like she's dating him and Iron Man simultaneously, to take advantage of his secret identity and undermine the credibility of perpetual Avengers foe, Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson!

Marvel Short #56 – A scheme, perhaps!

I got so wrapped up in trying to get the website up and running for real that I had to reconfigure my comic posting schedule. It’s a short joke comic this week, but it’s one I’ve been planning for a while!

Susan Storm-Richards, the Fantastic Four’s Invisible Woman, fights to maintain a barrier of invisible force energy against the assault of an Annihilation Reaver in the Negative Zone! The claws on each of the Reaver’s four arms are, unfortunately, breaking through the shield. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Fantastic Avengers Presents… ‘You’re So Lucky To Be Alive’,” is visible in the upper left-hand corner of the image.

And just like that, here we are, at the conclusion of this Fantastic Four-centric storyarc of the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe (please, take a look at parts one, two, and three, if you haven’t already – or, even if you have)… Now that they’ve made their grand appearance, the FF aren’t going…

Within the Baxter Building - the headquarters of the Fantastic Four - Sue Storm-Richards, Reed Richards, and Johnny Storm (the Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic, and the Human Torch, respectively) pose as they face something that we don’t know what it is. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Fantastic Avengers Presents… ‘You Might Be Able to Drive’,” is visible at the top of the image.

We’ve met the whole Fantastic Four! We’ve learned about their mission! Now, we’ve got to go to the Negative Zone! To take on a Fantastic Four story is, I think, to attempt to do justice to the King: Jack Kirby. A visionary artist, whose influence on visual media is nigh impossible to calculate, as well…

Inside the lobby of the Baxter Building - the headquarters of the Fantastic Four - Benjamin Grimm (AKA the Thing) stands with his hands at his side, looking furious. He tries to say, “But, Susie! It was Johnny who - “ The title of this comic strip, All-New, All-Fantastic Avengers Presents… ‘Keep Your Eyes on the Road’,” is visible at the top of the image.

This second entry (read the first here) in the initial Fantastic Four-centric arc of the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe brings with it another entry of my opinions about the Fantastic Four! I told you I had a lot of them. While what resonated with me about the FF initially was the drama…

The android Jocasta pilots an Avengers skycycle above the streets of New York City, with Miles Morales (wearing his Spider-Man mask) seated behind her. She says, “You are riding this skycycle unsafely, Miles.” The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Fantastic Avengers Presents… ‘Haste Creates Waste’,” is visible at the top of the image.

This is a big deal for me, this week’s comic strip. Not only do I get to introduce the rest of the Fantastic Four (Reed had a line of dialogue in the inaugural “No Sleep ‘Til Jonah” post), but I’m also trying to take better advantage of the storytelling flexibility I have here on the…

On the streets of New York City, Drax, Corsair, Yondu, and Mantis proudly pose. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Defamed Avengers Presents, ‘Visit Me In My Dreams’,’ is visible at the top of the image.

So, basically, this strip, and my blended version of the Guardians and the Starjammers (which I’m intending to just call the Starjammers) came out of wanting to expand the presence of conspiracy theories and those who hawk them in the comic. Sure, we have some folks who love to do that already, but there’s a…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
