All-New, All-Defamed Avengers #100 – ‘I Finally Understand Your Point of View’

Posted on July 26, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
Domino and War Machine face one another on a video call. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Defamed Avengers Presents… ‘I Finally Understand Your Point of View’,” is visible at the bottom of the image.
The face of James “Rhodey” Rhodes - the man inside the War Machine armor - is visible to Domino as they speak. He asks her to confirm that she’s truly quit the Avengers this time, and she affirms it.
War Machine is put out that Domino didn’t have a conversation with him before she quit the team this time, and she replies by saying that she has a lot of competing priorities right now. Joining X-Force was something she did for herself.
War Machine points out that X-Force is a divisive force in American culture (not, he implies, like the Avengers).
Domino observes that, as an Avenger, she participated in some fights that ultimately didn’t do much to change anything.
War Machine knows that he needs to sign out of the call, but has to ask Domino one thing before he goes. It’s difficult for him to ask, but he wonders if Black Cat is with Domino, at the secret X-Force headquarters.
No, Domino replies - Black Cat is in Madripoor, and they’re not together. War Machine wonders if, maybe, Domino’ll come back to him.
Domino signs off the call in disappointment; War Machine is just as disappointed in himself for making that remark. From the Avengers Tower lab where War Machine had placed the call, Tony Stark brushes by him in a suit, on his way to a date with the android Jocasta.
Jocasta does not seem eager to go to dinner with Tony, as she does not eat food like humans. Stark points out that luxuriating over a meal is a critical human experience, and so she decides to give it a shot.

100 installments of the “main story” of the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe! The first relationship that I really established was War Machine’s and Domino’s, so it’s only fitting, I think, to continue onto this next phase of their relationship. The Avengers and the mayoral race were really means to an end for Domino; what she was trying to achieve, she set out to do in spite of the institutional obstacles in her way, not because of the institutional power she might wield. X-Force, ever since I first worked in an offhand mention of them, seemed a better fit (philosophically and canonically) with Domino than the Avengers.

Just because Domino and War Machine are on different paths that have taken them apart, doesn’t mean they’ll stay apart forever! Relationships are complicated, especially when one partner has good luck powers that don’t always reveal their influence until (much) later!

But, hey, as one relationship is drifting apart, a new couple seems to be moving closer together! Though Jocasta didn’t seem enthusiastic about seeing Tony again, back in Latveria, they seem to be more comfortable together! I suppose that, compared to Doctor Doom, almost anybody else is more reasonable!

Here’s to at least 100 more comic strips!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
