All-New, All-Defamed Avengers #101 – ‘You’re Seemingly So Right’

Posted on August 2, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
Within the offices of the Daily Bugle, editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson and his son John take a break to play a game of pool. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Defamed Avengers Presents… ‘You’re Seemingly So Right’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Jonah wonders how John got to be so good at pool, particularly since he used to be such a nerd. John replies that pool is all angles, and asks his dad what he thinks geometry is. A knock at the break room door interrupts their game.
The Midtown High AV Club - Ben Reilly, Miles Morales, Lyla Lorman, and Joey Gastone - all of whom are interning at the Bugle, and helping Jonah and John put on the Bugle’s new late-night-style talk show, are standing in the office hallway, wanting to talk to Jonah. Neither one of the Jamesons looks excited to meet with their interns.
Jonah makes fun of them for being interns again, and Miles declares that they’re all quitting their internship. They never feel good about their work, and it’s not rewarding or fun for them.
Jonah declares them all ungrateful little punks. Miles starts to apologize, but his classmates interrupt to say that they’re not sorry.
Jonah threatens to have this “betrayal” put on the students’ permanent records. Before they stage their walkout, Miles ominously tells Jonah that he might see them around sooner than he thinks…
The former interns turn their backs to their former boss and raise their hands in the air as they walk out, reminiscent of Judd Nelson at the end of ‘The Breakfast Club.’
John asks Jonah why he looks so mad, and Jonah shouts that all their free labor just walked out the front door.
At the top of the image, we see the exterior of the Bugle, and hear Jonah complaining about how thin their profit margins are already. At the bottom of the image are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

The Avengers weren’t the only ones who saw the inaugural episode of “No Sleep ‘Til Jonah” as the last straw! Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are well-loved around New York City, even though there are some loud and powerful voices that shout otherwise.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
