All-New, All-Late-Night Avengers #97 – ‘No Sleep ‘Til Jonah’ (part 2)

Posted on July 5, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
In front of a nondescript brick wall on the New York City streets, astronaut-turned-reporter John Jameson asks a man he’s stopped if he has anything to say to the Avengers. The title of the comic strip, “All-New, All-Late-Night Avengers Presents… ‘No Sleep ’Til Jonah 2’,” is visible at the top of the image.
The man (an unnamed character “played” by an action figure of The Rock) grabs the microphone from John Jameson and declares that the Avengers aren’t going to like “the taste of what I’ve been cooking!” Next, Jameson interviews notorious NYC criminal Hammerhead.
Hammerhead declares that the Avengers had better not get in his way again. Back in the studio, Daily Bugle editor-in-chief, and John’s father, J. Jonah Jameson, declares that the Bugle and the average New Yorker have had up to “to here” with the Avengers.
Taking a drink at his desk, Jonah reminds his viewers that average New Yorkers can only be pushed too far before they snap.
Outside of a jail cell, John Jameson holds his microphone before the incarcerated Klaw, who announces that he’s filing a class-action lawsuit against Stark and the Avengers, for allowing him to be mind-controlled while held in the super-prison, the Vault.
In the studio, Jonah announces that he would ordinarily be in favor of brainwashing supervillains, but Tony Stark would be opposed, and he let it happen, anyway! Another person on the street tells John Jameson the story of how they were injured while rubbernecking as the Avengers worked to catch debris falling off a building.
John Jameson interviews Audrey and Gordon Tator, the couple that causes so much trouble for the Avengers, as well as the mysterious Major Christopher Summers, who claims to be crusading against the Avengers and their secret one-world government sponsors.
Summers encourages everybody to visit the website CorsairTruth dot net to learn more, and back in the studio, even Jonah thinks that this segment may have gone too far.
As Jonah signs off for this episode, two of the Midtown High AV club interns - Joey Gastone and Lyla Lorman - declare their intention to quit their Daily Bugle internship.

The title is pretty self-explanatory; we’re picking up where we left off last week with the Daily Bugle’s new late-night-style talk show, “No Sleep ‘Til Jonah!” Now, though, we’ve gotten out of the studio with senior correspondent John Jameson, who’s asking the people of New York City just what they think of the Avengers! It’s probably just a coincidence that he interviewed two of the most vocal Avengers haters in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe, former Vault inmate Ulysses Klaw, classic Spider-Man foe Hammerhead, and a few other new faces who clearly don’t have an anti-Avengers agenda that they’re pushing, at all!

It’s probably no surprise that the Midtown High AV Club is already regretting signing up for Jonah’s internship, is it?

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
