All-New, All-Business Avengers #79 – ‘Keep Searching, Keep Pushing On’

Posted on February 15, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
On their date in the city, Moon Knight holds out an ice cream cone for Spider-Woman. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Business Avengers Presents… ‘Keep Searching, Keep Pushing On’,” is visible at the top of the image.
The Avengers are acknowledged by two of their teenage fans, Ben Reilly and Joey Gastone (“played” in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe by action figures of Peter Parker and Ned Leeds from the MCU).
Moon Knight and Spider-Woman wave to the boys, and go about their date. Joey accuses Ben of being off-putting and “too thirsty.”
Ben disagrees with Joey, but Joey proves that Ben is, indeed, too thirsty.
Several other civilians - people wearing masks to inhibit the spread of disease - thank Spider-Woman and Moon Knight for their service to the city.
Spider-Woman strikes a hero pose, but the fun is interrupted by the approach of a tremendous vehicle.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. hit squad - “Dum Dum” Dugan, Kate Neville, Charles Little Sky, and G.W. Bridge - approaches on their monster truck.
Spider-Woman identifies the monster truck as a Basic Assault Transport, a S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicle. Bridge jumps out of it, ordering the Avengers to surrender.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents all approach, bearing their firearms, in blatant defiance of Spider-Woman’s assertion that S.H.I.E.L.D. itself isn’t usually allowed to operate on U.S. soil.
On the top half of the image, the S.H.I.E.L.D. hit squad opens fire on Spider-Woman and Moon Knight. On the bottom half are the credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

“Nothing can prevent [Moon Knight] and [Spider-Woman] from having a pleasant night on the town… Oh, yeah?” to borrow from the cover to Captain America #371. It’s almost like the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have been lying in wait, to strike just when the Avengers were finally having a good time!

I found the Ned & Peter (in the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe, they’re “Joey” and “Ben”) Marvel Legends figures at a significant discount, a little while back, and have been looking for a good opportunity to introduce them to the comic! Eventually, I’d like to make them, and a few other action figures I haven’t yet purchased, into classmates of Miles’ at Midtown High. He needs kids his own age to hang out with, not just superpowered adults who constantly try to impart wisdom on him!

The cast just keeps expanding!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
