Welcome back, once again, to the “main story,” where we’re continuing to deal with the fallout from the Red Skull and HYDRA’s ambush of Spider-Man, and his resulting injuries, both physical and by the media! Now, today, we try to consider how a fallen hero might impact those who’ve looked up to him; in this case, the reluctant Daily Bugle intern who’s managed to keep his Spider-Fandom alive, Miles Morales.
Spending as much time as he does at the epicenter of the anti-Spider-Man storm, you’d figure Miles might have gotten beaten down. He might have seen his idealism wither, and eventually turn on his hero, if only because of the sheer bludgeoning force of Jonah’s personality. He hasn’t, though. Miles still loves Spider-Man, still draws inspiration from him. Even though they’ve never met, Spider-Man’s done so much for Miles that Miles wants to repay the favor, now that his hero needs help. What could that be, I wonder…?
When the idea of this Spider-Injury came to me, I knew I had to find a way to have Miles talk through his feelings with Fat Thor, the God of Thunder and Encouragement. It’s been a bit, since Thor has been able to have a good heart-to-heart with a friend, but he’s always there when you need him. Unless he’s saving another planet.
