My personal history with the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers goes back to the premiere of the series; I was exactly the right age to fall in love with the show. It was the perfect combination of stories of good friendship, martial arts fights with weird monsters, giant robots, vaguely cartoonish physical comedy, and a slightly hair metal score to set my imagination on fire (at least until the first cast changeover).
[EDIT: And, eventually, as all the seedy stories about the show’s production broke, my affection for it all came roaring back, out of some slightly misguided need to protect these actors whose work had so enriched the afternoons of my youth.]
I didn’t really follow any of the incarnations of Power Rangers after the Mighty Morphin’ branding was retired, so pretty much all I knew about the Andros character when I bought his action figure was that his cloak looked more like a robe that The Dude might have been wearing.
So much of the antics that filled time between battles with monsters on the show felt like warmed-over B- or C-grade sitcom adventure, that I thought it might be fun to try and “do” a Power Rangers sitcom with all the toys I’ve obtained. I hope you enjoy my first run at it!
