Space Ghost: Making the Most #4 – Darth Vader!

Posted on May 16, 2022January 20, 2024 by phil.wrede
Space Ghost has a red couch set up next to his table in today’s comic strip, and talks about space jail as a way to build up to introducing his latest guest.
It’s Darth Vader, who enters jauntily dancing to a parody of the Goldfinger movie theme - “Darth Vader/ He’s the lord!/ The dark lord of the Sith!”
The parody continues as Vader dances more, and then sits down - “His helmet’s not pith!/ Such a daring raider!/ Hate makes him strong and kill rebels is his brand!/ The rebellion won’t stand!/ But the only thing he hates more than rebels is… sannddd!!”
Vader tells Space Ghost that he’s only come to the show to talk about the new Obi-Wan Kenobi show, coming to Disney+.
Vader has a momentary mental crisis, as he tries to avoid explaining to Space Ghost how he got to play entrance music in a shapeless, formless, timeless void.
Vader drops to his knees, screaming, “Nnnooo!”
Vader threatens Space Ghost with the Force, while Space Ghost claims that his Power Bands are more than a match for Vader’s Force.
After exchanging more threats, Vader declares that Space Ghost isn’t even worth the effort it would take to obliterate him.
Space Ghost tells Vader that their gift bags at the show are probably not things he would appreciate, and after Vader storms off, Space Ghost obligingly reminds us all when the Obi-Wan Kenobi show premieres (May 27th, of some year).
The credits for the comic strip, including the creators of Space Ghost, and the makers of the film Star Wars, the composer and performer of the theme to Goldfinger and the creator Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and the use of fonts by Blambot, and that the character photography, script, and lettering were all done by me, Phil Wrede.

Ordinarily, guests come on talk shows to promote recent or upcoming projects. Thus far, in my revival of Space Ghost’s talk show, he’s had on the star of a failed cinematic universe kickoff (Bloodshot), a robot who appeared in one movie in 1979 (V.I.N.C.E.N.T.), and the protagonist of The Matrix (Neo). It’s somehow fitting, then, that his latest guest made his first appearance onscreen earlier than any of the previous guests, and somehow is also the only one plugging a new series.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
