Space Ghost: Making the Most #1 – Bloodshot!

Posted on June 18, 2021January 20, 2024 by phil.wrede
From behind his desk, Space Ghost welcomes viewers to his new show, which is aired from a “shapeless, formless void, where time is unpassing and unchanging.” The environment around Space Ghost is bright white, with no definition.
From further away, and higher up, Space Ghost continues, and explains that the Council of Doom has trapped him in this void for the rest of eternity.
Space Ghost won’t let any of these setbacks keep him from doing his show, he declares, and he welcomes his new guest, Bloodshot!
When prompted to talk about his new movie, Bloodshot can remember its name (Bloodshot), and can show the DVD to Space Ghost, but he can’t remember anything else about it.
Space Ghost reminds Bloodshot that his memory does often get wiped, so that the mysterious forces manipulating him can send him on high-risk missions with little pushback.
Space Ghost admits that he would do unforgivable things to escape his prison.
Space Ghost makes a joke about Memento; Bloodshot remarks that Guy Pearce is in his movie.
Bloodshot takes out a gift for Space Ghost - it’s a mug, in the shape of his head. Space Ghost is obviously made uncomfortable by this.
Space Ghost cuts the interview short.
The credits for the comic strip, including the creators of Space Ghost, and Bloodshot, and Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and the use of fonts by Blambot, and that the character photography, script, and lettering were all done by me, Phil Wrede.

I really didn’t know what I was getting into when I started watching Cartoon Network in its earliest days. I wasn’t familiar with Space Ghost in his original incarnation, and so, when Space Ghost: Coast to Coast strolled onto my parents’ TV, I honestly didn’t know what was happening. I definitely couldn’t have predicted that the bit with the talking car would still be on repeat in my head several times a week, to this very day. Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
