War Machine unleashes a burst of gunfire from the minigun strapped to his left shoulder while shouting, “Time to batten down the hatches!” The title of the comic strip, “All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents… ‘Rumble’,” is visible at the top of the page.

So, it would probably be easy to hand-wave away the Marvel continuity crossing that I do in this comic, weaving in characters from the movies, and TV shows, and comic books… And that’s before we even get to my outright-renaming of MCU action figures later on, or introducing semi-original characters who are “played” by action…

I’ve always had some affection for the faceless flunkies, who are always pawns in the larger games played by the named heroes and villains in stories. It was very firmly codified in my mind when I saw Galaxy Quest for the first time, and Sam Rockwell’s character Guy Fleegman described the character he played on…

Iron Man, War Machine, and J. Jonah Jameson are on a Zoom call together on the top half of the screen. The title of the comic - "All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents... 'Resign'" - is on the bottom half of the screen.

I had a surprising amount of fun designing the various corporate icons and logos that pop up in the comic. The Daily Bugle’s logo is probably my favorite, followed by the one for Hammer Industries. J. Jonah Jameson pulled out to an early lead as my favorite character to write in this comic, and frankly,…

Iron Man, War Machine, and Spider-Woman are on a Zoom call together on the top half of the screen. The title of the comic - "All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents... 'Redress'" - is on the bottom half of the screen.

At the time I was working on this comic, I thought it would be a big deal to have somebody GO OUTSIDE in the middle of a strip. Whether or not it retains any of the drama I thought it had in December of 2020, it was crucial to take the characters out of their…

Red Guardian, Rage, and Domino are on a Zoom call together on the top half of the screen. The title of the comic - "All-New, All-Remote Avengers Presents... 'Reframe'" - is on the bottom half of the screen.

So, in conceptualizing this comic series, I was thinking about what Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau said about how they conceived The Mandalorian, in the early going. Thinking about playing with Star Wars action figures, when your older sibling took all the “good” ones, and left you with the, well, the leftovers. B-listers, at best….

I had been enamored with the idea toy photography for a very long time before I took it up as a hobby; the cover to that Small Scenes, Big Galaxy book always charmed the heck out of me when I saw it on my many wanderings through many bookstores. I never actually bought it, but…

And that’s how Mando and Wedge get out of their mess! Ten (full-length) installments of my Star Wars toy comic! Thanks for coming with me on this little adventure; I hope you enjoyed it about as much as I enjoyed making it! Now, I’m going to take a break from this story, and try out…

On the bridge of the Clever Dragon, at some undefined point in time, R5 tells the heavy Mandalorian a joke: “Why did the Ithorian cross the road? Because his head was too large for the pathway he was currently traveling on!” The heavy Mando doesn’t really get the joke.

I know this is a poorly-timed interruption in the action of the comic! I was too busy this week to finish the full story, and I didn’t want to go radio-silent, so… Here’s a little joke that I thought up, that I found charming!

No surprise, we’re picking up right where we left off, in the last installment of the comic! I’ve made my Wedge-and-Mando teamup happen, but how will they get out of this pickle they’re trapped in? I know there’s way more than one Imperial probe droid in the galaxy, but wouldn’t it be kind of funny…

So, obviously, this strip throws you, the reader, a bit of a curve ball – the Mandalorian revealed at the end of the strip is Mando, of The Mandalorian show, rather than the heavy Mandalorian whose adventures we’ve been following the whole time! If you want a reason for this decision, it’s just that I…

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
