Star Wars – A Mandalorian, Episode IX: Toxic Love

Posted on November 24, 2020January 5, 2024 by phil.wrede
The title page of the comic strip, the silhouette of a Mandalorian warrior walking alone. The title, “Episode IX: Toxic Love,” is visible in the top-left corner of the image.
Captain Phasma and the silver stormtrooper have landed on the planet’s surface, and think they’ve identified Mando and Wedge in the forest. They communicate with the Red Fury trooper, still in his TIE Fighter above.
Mando looks back through the trees at their First Order pursuit. Wedge asks how far away the Razor Crest is from their position. “Too far,” Mando says.
Phasma orders the TIE to try and flush Mando and Wedge out from the forest. The TIE begins its attack run. Mando and Wedge begin to run.
The forest explodes around Wedge and Mando as the TIE blasts its lasers at them.
The TIE loops away, while Phasma and the silver stormtrooper march into the flaming wreckage of the forest. They can’t find Mando or Wedge, though.
Phasma calls for her “pet” from the star destroyer above, and a probe droid dips into the planet’s atmosphere. Mando presses a control stud on his wrist, calling the Razor Crest to their location automatically.
The probe droid joins Phasma and the silver trooper among the forest fire. Wedge and Mando steel themselves for the fight about to come.
The credits of the comic strip, identifying where the stock photographs (for backgrounds and visual effects) were sourced, crediting George Lucas for creating Star Wars, and identifying me (Phil Wrede) as the scriptwriter, character photographer, and letterer of the comic.

I know there’s way more than one Imperial probe droid in the galaxy, but wouldn’t it be kind of funny if this was the same probe droid that R5 was running away from?

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
