All-New, All-Interlude Avengers #135 – ‘Everything in Constant Swing’

Posted on April 17, 2024April 18, 2024 by phil.wrede
In Reed Richards’ idea room within the Baxter Building, he and Tony Stark discuss the role of music in their quest for inspiration. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Interlude Avengers Presents… ‘Everything in Constant Swing’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Tony and Reed continue their discussion, whether they should be putting their hard work into promoting their idea for the palladium mining, or into working on the plan for the palladium mining.
In a hallway leading to the idea room, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm discuss their next visit to the Negative Zone. Sue Storm-Richards and intern Miles Morales return to their conversation about what the palladium mining might do to the Negative Zone.
Tony flies off, back to Avengers Tower, leaving the Fantastic Four in their headquarters.
At the White House, President Kirby (who’s named after legendary comics creator Jack Kirby, and “played” here by an action figure of Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead series) and Jay Hansen (“played” here by an action figure of David Xanatos from the Gargoyles cartoon) converse in a roundabout way about a plan they’re developing to ally against Tony Stark and the Avengers.
As Kirby and Hansen continue to speak, we cut back to Avengers Tower, where Avengers intern Luis Garcia-Lopez and Tony’s personal assistant Virginia “Pepper” Potts (“played” here by an action figure of Laura Dern from the Jurassic Park series) begin a conversation of their own.
Luis asks Pepper how she approaches the subject of pay raises with Tony, while on the exterior helipad, Captain America and the android Jocasta have a discussion about the nature of identity.
Cap and Jocasta’s conversation grows deeper, and perhaps, closer.

I don’t think we’ve seen Luis since the Hammer Gala; I feel terrible for leaving him out of the story for so long! That’s what you get when your cast balloons to dozens (maybe over a hundred, by this point), I guess!

I never intended for this interlude section of the story to run on this long, but when inspiration strikes you, I think you shouldn’t run away from it! Therefore, if you’d like an easy way to go back and read the two previous parts, feel free to click on the links below!

  • Part One (wherein nearly every major current running plotline is touched upon!)
  • Part Two (wherein Beast has had it up to here!)

And, speaking of drawn-out stories, the Avengers’ plot to “troll” Jonah by tempting him into telling a fake story about Iron Man and Jocasta’s romance has been going since last September! I wouldn’t blame anybody who was having trouble keeping that little tale straight in their minds, so here, have a few more links!

  • Part One (wherein Tony and Jocasta hatch the plan)
  • Part Two (wherein Jocasta has to loop in War Machine)
  • Part Three (wherein it’s not clear if U.S. Agent is a witting, or unwitting, conspirator!)
  • Part Four (wherein Jonah takes the bait)
  • Part Five (wherein Tony sees the bait taken)

I’m honestly less sure about where this story is going, after completing this most recent comic strip. We’ll see if my outline can hold up to my most recent brush with inspiration!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
