All-New, All-Defamed Avengers #102 – ‘The Metronome Is Wrong Again’

Posted on August 9, 2023September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
Outside of Avengers Tower, Daily Bugle lead reporter John Jameson and his cameraman, Edward Brock, Sr., run away as fast as their feet can carry them from the Beast and Pepper Potts. The title of this comic strip, “All-New, All-Defamed Avengers Presents… ‘The Metronome Is Wrong Again’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Pepper and Beast yell one more time at John and Brock. Pepper is amazed that John Jameson is willing to do his dad’s sneaking around for him, but Beast is not.
John calls his dad - Daily Bugle editor-in-chief, J. Jonah Jameson - to complain about being run off the Avengers’ property. Jonah tells John that if he can’t report about what he can see, he should report about what he can’t see. Pepper takes out a walkie talkie to give Avengers security an update.
On top of the building, Thor takes Pepper’s call, and promises to introduce John Jameson to his enchanted hammer Mjolnir, if he returns.
Pepper thanks Beast for his help in running off the intruders. Beast remarks that anything is a nice change of pace from his scut HR work for Stark Industries. He laments not being able to return to the X-Men mansion.
John Jameson and Brock set up for a shot across the street from Avengers Tower. John calls Avengers Tower, “Constitutional Rights-Violating Tower.”
Pepper tries to console Beast, but he continues to complain. Pepper mentions to him that she understands his feelings, that she’s still frustrated she’s not properly credited for designing some of the Iron Man suit’s cybernetics.
Beast apologizes for not knowing that part of Pepper’s story, and she admits that she signed an NDA when Stark bought her work. John Jameson starts to rail against the Avengers in a style reminiscent of his father.
John brings up the instability of the Avengers’ roster of heroes, and announces his amazement that the only people available to chase him and Brock off the property were two office workers!

John Jameson’s striking out on his own this week, relatively speaking, and he sure seems to be striking out! It’s almost like he’s a pale shadow of his father/mentor, and has no new ideas to bring to the table! We’ve never seen anything like that before, right…?

Also, let’s take a minute to celebrate the arrival of Virginia “Pepper” Potts to the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
