All-New, Rebranded Avengers #36 – ‘Ain’t No Easy Way Out’

Posted on September 2, 2021September 17, 2023 by phil.wrede
Daily Bugle intern extraordinaire Miles Morales runs down an office hallway, towards the sound of the voice of his boss, J. Jonah Jameson. The title of the comic strip, “All-New, Rebranded Avengers Presents… ‘Ain’t No Easy Way Out’,” is visible at the top of the image.
Miles arrives, and Jonah accuses him of being late. Miles meekly disputes Jonah’s characterization.
Jonah orders Miles to turn on “the podcasting equipment” so that he and his co-host can begin recording the next episode of the Daily Bugle’s official podcast, Reveille.
Jonah announces into the microphone that we’re on day seven thousand, three hundred of “Spider-Man Watch” (which is 20 years, and we were about 19.5 years out from the theatrical release of the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man movie, at the time this comic was originally posted).
Jonah’s co-host suggests the possibility that Spider-Man might not be responsible for every bad thing that’s happened in New York City ever since his first appearance, but Jonah disagrees.
Jonah cites the recent battle between the Avengers and HYDRA. He contends that Spider-Man has never, not even once, been seen fighting HYDRA.
Miles reluctantly gives Jonah a lead-in to some sponsored ad reads, specifically from Roxxon and Horizon Labs.
Jonah asks Miles to explain one of the products he just advertised, and he doesn’t like Miles’ answer.
They reach the end of their podcast recording time; Jonah encourages everybody to stay subscribed to the Daily Bugle, and to the podcast.

At this point, there’s not at lot new for me to babble about, with a new J. Jonah Jameson appearance. I liked to tell myself that I was going to be judicious with his appearances, that I didn’t want to wear out the welcome of my very favorite character to write. Obviously, I haven’t been able to help myself. I like to think that I, at least, try to give him a variety of characters to bounce off of, every time he pops his mouth off.

I am quite pleased with the official motto I developed for the Daily Bugle, as seen beneath its App Store logo in the last panel before the credits.

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
