Star Wars – A Mandalorian, Episode VII: Gift, With Strings Attached

Posted on November 12, 2020December 23, 2024 by phil.wrede
The title page of the comic strip, the silhouette of a Mandalorian warrior walking alone. The title, “Episode VII: Gift, With Strings Attached,” is visible in the top-left corner of the image.
Back in the First Order base, Captain Phasma startles the Red Fury stormtrooper as she approaches him from behind.
The Red Fury trooper mistakenly thinks he’s going to bond with Captain Phasma, but she very swiftly corrects his assumption.
The former First Order stormtrooper emerges in new silver stormtrooper armor, carrying a large rifle. Phasma explains to the Red Fury trooper that he has been lifted up, that she sees something in this trooper that is admirable.
The troopers follow Phasma into her private hangar below the First Order base. They try to determine what exactly Captain Phasma’s “division” is.
The silver trooper declares it Phasma’s “personal empire” within the First Order, where “her every whim is law.” Phasma takes the two troopers over to a hidden TIE Phantom, perhaps the only one remaining in the galaxy.
Phasma explains to her troopers that she will bring them along with her, as she hunts the Mandalorian that escaped their clutches earlier.
Phasma continues, saying that they are to proceed to the Star Destroyer Blasphemer; her sources aboard the ship report sighting the Mandalorian. As the two stormtroopers discuss which of them will get to fly the Phantom, Phasma says that, actually, neither one of them are rated to fly it.
The credits of the comic strip, identifying where the stock photographs (for backgrounds) were sourced, crediting George Lucas for creating Star Wars, and identifying me (Phil Wrede) as the scriptwriter, character photographer, and letterer of the comic.

Phasma’s already discarded one of her new recruits, and promoted another one! As far as I know, she didn’t kill the one that isn’t in this strip, which I think already makes her a better boss/supervisor/manager/commander than Darth Vader or Kylo Ren!

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
