Marvel Short #51 – Election season! (part 11)

Posted on November 9, 2022September 19, 2023 by phil.wrede
J. Jonah Jameson announces, on his podcast, that Mayor Gruenwald (named for longtime Marvel editor/writer Mark Gruenwald) has won reelection. Jonah cheers this as a victory for the common-sense voter. Daily Bugle intern Miles Morales doesn't agree.
The credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

Well, we’ve been building up to it, inconsistently, for near on seven months, but the results of the NYC mayoral election are finally in! And the result is… the same as the last election. Did HYDRA’s influence campaign sway the voters? Did rampant conspiracy-mongering play a part in the outcome? It’s tough to say for sure, but… there’s a chance! It’s a strange time, in a dynamic city, in a stupendously weird country, so almost anything’s possible.

If you’re despairing, dear reader, don’t forget: Domino’s good luck power always sees her through, by the end! Keep hope alive! Do it by reading the earlier installments of this tale, if you haven’t already:

Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
