Marvel Short #32 – Fourth Wall Breakage

Posted on March 23, 2022September 18, 2023 by phil.wrede
The Shocker and Sandman share their mutual regret over how, as action figures, they can't actually have a drink of the beer they've obtained.
The credits for the comic strip, citing the Unsplash users whose photographs were the background art, the ownership of Marvel by Disney, the creation of Marvel characters by actual human beings, and the figure photography/script/lettering by me, Phil Wrede.

My wife, as I’ve mentioned before, has been incredibly supportive of this toy comic project, from the first time I offhandedly mentioned it as an idea. She’s obtained a number of wonderful accessories for me to fill out the world of the Phil Wrede Marvel Action Figure Comic Universe, from the toy dog that eventually became Thor’s pet (see the hyperlink), as well as a collection of little food and drink items, like the beer can that the Shocker offers Sandman in this comic. Welcome to PizzaRat dot Net, where I (Phil Wrede) post my toy comics!

The Idea

Comics, but with photos, instead of drawings.

The Process

Using stock photos as backgrounds, and digitally pasting photos of action figures over them. Graphic design software enables the lettering.

The Point

To make comics, to share stories, and to retroactively justify all the money I've spent on action figures over the years.
